So today is a very hot day and I didnt feel like cooking. So I made top ramen for my kids to eat for dinner tonight. They didnt care they all like it expecally my 2 year old. But I had a neighbor kid over to play and asked if he wanted some. I was in shock when the little boy said No thank you Mrs. Rayne I will eat at home. I said are you sure and he said yes we had the poor mans meal last night for dinner. I could not help but laugh and called his mom to tell her I'm sending him home to eat cause he does not want to eat the poor mans meal again. His poor mother was so embrassed and told me thats what her boyfriend calls it. She then went on to apolgize for him saying that. I didnt care I thought it was funny. Before I sent him home I told him from now on I will call Ramen noodles the poor mans meal just for him.

Kids say the darndest things, don't they. I am sure I have called it that too. Kids just seem to really like those noodles. I like them once in awhile and thats only because I have eaten a lot of them in the past. Lately we have been using them as a side dish. They go well with just about everything. My boyfriend likes to put an egg in it to like you mentioned to another poster. I have not tried it that way.

My hubby loves noodles and when ever i make these, i add some veggies into it. i M a vegetarian so i like to add vegetables into it, but one can add non - veg pieces also, it is verytasty as told to me by my hubby because he eats non-veg. and when he saw mw adding these veggies one day, he added that chicken pieces and that tasted so good , that i dont think , one can call it a poor man's meal. it can be preeety expensive.

We eat them as well, but we usually rinse the noodles to get out any starch. I then fry onions and peppers in a little olive oil and mix it with them as well as add any small vegetables and pieces of chicken or meat if we have them. I know why they call it the poor mans meal, it is quite cheap. When I was young the poor man's meal was Macaroni and Cheese or soup made from ketchup. We sure have come along way since then.

I've never heard of top ramen, ramen or poors man's meal before! It's not something we have in the UK, as far as i know. I'm guessing it's some kind of noodle dish from your description? I wonder if we have it over here but by a different name? Hope the mum & child weren't too embarassed.

I love Top Romen even if it is the poor mans meal. It is cheap and it is good tasting. I feel that it has gotten a bad rap because of its cost. I do not know how much nutrition it really has in it, for once in a while it see nothing wrong with it. I love to add other things to top romen or add top romen to other ingrediants. I like to brown some hamberger, add the noodles of top romen, and some of the sauce package, add some veggies, and maybe add some cheese on top. One dish meal, high is salt but good for a quick meal for the kids. Corn, peans or green beans works well.

Haha, that is pretty funny and he sounds like quite a polite little boy despite himself. They do come out with some zingers, don't they? We have those nights, too, only instead of calling them the Poor Man's Meal, that particular dinner is called, Fend for Yourself Night.

That is funny that he called them that. I like Ramen noodles. They are pretty cheap. They go on sale for as cheap as $.09 here. My son likes them too. I have not bought them in a long time. I might just have to get some next time I am at the store. You are making me want some.

That is so cute and funny. I'm saure not for the mom. In my house everyone absolutely loves it. I have to make sure I have it on hand always. I sometimes cut up some vienna sausages and throw them right in there. the kids love it. They would much rather have that than grilled salmon or baked chicken. I'm sure almost everyone has had this "poor mans meal" more than once.

Hats off to you for not being offended by what comes out of a child's mouth. He probably did not even know that his statement could potentially hurt someone's feelings. I love people like you with a great sense of humor. My kids love ramen noodles too. I think most kids do. I have a friend who adds burger, green pepper, mustard and tomato soup. She bakes the entire dish and it is almost like spaghetti-delicious. I will have to see if I can find the recipe. She calls it Nana's sketti and all her grandkids request it on a regular basis. Keep your great attitude! You are setting a good example for the children in your life. =)

I love Ramen, it is so easy to prepare and it satisfies hunger. Funny how some calls it a poor mans meal..it could be becasue it is cheap. I remember I used to eat this everyday when I was in college.
