i had my daughter and when she was about six months old i put her in daycare so i could pick up extra hours at work for more money, well anyway she got four ear infections in the two months that she was there and it cost me more money than anthing. now i'm totally against daycares and also what turned me against them was my daughter dropped her pacifier on the floor the teacher proceeded to hand it to her without rinsing it off until i said something to her and that was the last time they saw her again. plus it cost me about 4,000.00 in medical bills becuase she had to get tubes in her ears because the antibiotics never helped much.

I am totally against daycares. I have never put my children in them..I have been lucky enough to not do so. I have a five year old daughter and a ten month old son but right when I got pregnant with my first child I knew right away I was not going to work until my children were in school. I looked online to find a job to work from home because we did have to have extra income coming in but I refused to leave my children. I did find a business at home and am currently working it so I am so glad that I didnt have to leave home. I dont blame you for not liking them. They have way to many germs, your children dont get the one on one care they need at the young age, and you never know who you can trust. I hear a lot how kids get ear infections at daycares! And like you said, they are so expensive. Even if they werent though, I still wouldnt put them in it, it gives me a funny feeling!

misssweetthingg , you best not take your children any where, because ear infections develop in a child who has had a cold and your little ones can catch a cold anywhere. Using a pacifier too frequently;can also cause an ear infection. Let us hope your wee ones don't have allergies because children with allergies are prone to ear infections.

I know it may sound wierd, and I promise im not lying but my daughter is now 5 yrs old and has yet to have an ear infection. My son is 10 months old and he hasnt had one yet either, so keep your fingers crossed for them! I think its because I disinfect my house a lot and my children dont go to daycare!

I am sad to hear that. That's terrible. The daycare that you are relating is horrible, seem like they do not know what is hygiene. Is there any other daycare around your area, do check it and change it. Or, do you have any kin or sibling to help to care of her? God Bless.

I do have relatives but I don't trust my daughter to be around my step dad because he molested me when i was younger so she doesn't go to my mom's house without me and my husband present.

I hope you can find something that is better for you. Maybe your husband can work two jobs and allow you to stay home?

You have discovered that it is important to count the unseen, or hidden costs of things. Many studies have shown that children who are in a daycare setting pick up more ear infections. Another contributing factor is being around second hand smoke, scented cleaning products, and the list goes on. Your daughter will be better off spending more time with you. The one on one attention, as well as improved health will more than make up for the few extra hours you might get.

My children did not go to daycare, but did receive plenty of outside stimulation. When my son entered kindergarten he read at a twelfth grade ninth month level. My daughter was also very gifted, but did not see well until she got glasses, at age five. She then could read, even though she was just beginning kindergarten. Not all parents can keep their children out of daycares. I personally favor home based daycare over personal daycare. Individual circumstances vary. Ear infections are not inevitable for all children. I did not have them, my son had one, my daughter had none. She did get pneumonia when her dad, who smoked, got laid off and was home all of the time. A day care is not a preschool. Preschools for children entering school the next year are okay, if they do not have any other place to learn socialization and basic direction following skills.

You're trying to tell me your five year old son read at a grade 12 highschool level?

Studies show that children who attend school like daycares are more prepared for school. Heaven help these mom's who are worried about things like ear infections from other kids. What will you do when your little one goes to kindergarten?

I'm sorry to hear that, but you can not judge all daycares based on the bad experience of one. I'm wondering if you bothered to report the daycare if you thought neglect was happening? Both my children attended daycare. My son was better prepared for school because he attended the daycare. My daughter had learning difficulties and I think the daycare helped her. I'm also wondering how you can blame the daycare for your daughter's ear infections? While it is true that ear infections are caused by bacteria and viruses, who is to say that she picked up the virus at a daycare? Babies and preschool-aged children get ear infections all the time. Some children are prone to repeated ear infections, my son was and I don't blame anyone. I really think it is crazy to blame the day care because your daughter got an ear infection that resulted in needing tubes. That is insane!

well first off i blamed them because the instructor of the daycare her son was going there and he had an ear infection and she had him in the same class with my daughter and other children and at the time i was working which i lost my job because i had to take her to the hospital ever other night because her temp had gotten up to 102 degrees so yes i do hold them responsible. because she knew better and she knew that ear infections are contagious where as i did't. she called her illness before i even knew what was wrong with her so i wasn't saying that i think people putting their children in daycare is wrong i just said since that situation happened to me i don't do daycares that's all. r u having a bad day cause you seem upset. i hope you feel better God Bless!

Actually I am having a great day & you did not tell us the full story so seeing how he had an ear infection that just change things. I can understand why you are upset & I'm sorry to hear of your bad experience. Was her son already on antibiotics? Is your daughter's ears better now? I hope that it won't effect her hearing or speech. :)

H sramsey! I think that your child is too young to be put into childcare. It's this age she requires your love and attention more. The first 5 years in a childs life is very important to mould him/her.

While it is true that some daycares are not very sanitary. It is your job as a parent to check them out before leaving your child there. Not all moms can choose to be stay at home mothers there lovelydame3000.

I am so sorry to hear that. I think it's not good for babies to have daycare. As they are very little. Nobody can care about the children than their parents and families.

That is simply not true! I provide respite care. Are you saying that I'm not as qualified as the mother?

No, I am sure you are a good mom. I know it's not easy to take care of a baby. I have to work and therefore my family takes care of my baby for me. At that time my baby was 6 months old. Of course I want to look after him by myself, but anyway I have to work so that in the future we can have more money for him for education.

i do not have any kids yet but i know if i have one in the future, i will never put them in daycare... i prefer to take care of them myself... daycare cost so much and they do not do their job of looking after our children properly... i've heard so many scary things about how daycare treat the children and it just gives me a fright... as for the extra income that i know that i will definitely need it when i have a child, i will try to do online business or find a job from home... that way, i can earn money as well as taking care of my child even though i know we don't earn as much as if we have a proper job...

I think you have to find the right daycare- My daughter didn't go to daycare until she was 3- and then it was the college daycare where I was going back to college as an adult. She now is 10 and she still goes to daycare before and after school- She hasn't gotten very sick ever-- knock on wood- I think you just have to check out the daycare very good before sending your child. This daycare we have now is awesome! Sure I'd love to be home with her daily instead of sending her- but we aren't financially able to do this-

Having done daycare for the state for several years, it is very hard to find good daycare. When one of my younger brothers was little my mom put him in daycare at about 6 months. Within about 3 weeks she noticed he was losing alot of weight and sickly. It turned out that the babysitter wasn't feeding him and was giving his food and milk to her baby. She's lucky my mom didn't string her up on the spot. Needless to say, that was the end of babysitters outside the family. LIVE IN PEACE

I stay at home with my children after having a lousy experiance with my now 2 year old's daycare. Unfortunatly I worked there so my complains were falling on deaf ears. He did get sick often but I wouldn't blame the daycare for that, it happens. He still gets sick even though he's home. But unfortunatly they took advantage of me since I was working there and they told me if I complained they would fire me, so I complained my butt of and quit on the spot and immediatly removed my son. And this was a accredited, department of defense run daycare. It just seems like sometimes you have to keep trying until you get the right fit.
