can someone explain to me why did Hurley's "lucky" numbers turned to be unlucky?i have been busy on my review classes and i havent been able to update myself since the start of lost's season 2(i pity myself, that's i bought dvd!). i stopped at the part where Hurley became a millionaire. i've been watching the show lately but somehow on that part, i don't really understand what happened.

They are supposed to be cursed numbers. The numbers were also printed on the outside of the hatch. The numbers add up to 108, which was painted at the bottom of the hatch. There are a bunch of instances where the numbers appear in one way or the other (ie. character was sitting in Row 15 of the plane).

the numbers are also the ones the man in the asylum used to say all the time. thanks for the site heatherc. i'll try to check it. my god, these numbers are so intriguing..

It is just unlucky. Aften Hurley won the lottery, his life was ruined. Hurley though these numbers have been cursed. But there has not been any answer about that in Lost.
These numbers are very special, and they appeared many times under different cirmustance. Maybe they would appear again in season 4. It seems we could not get the answers until the coming of season 4.
It's more mysterious than Jacob.
I don't know if someone has tried to buy those numbers in lottery.^_^.

I have that kind of impulse, but I think I dare not to buy it.^_^.
who knows what would happen if I buy those numbers! maybe those numbers really have been cursed!!^_^.

they never really explain why the numbers are bad or the significance of these specific numbers. I feel that they won't ever explain them either. However, they have brought bad luck to a few people like Hurley, the guy in the mental institution (seeing they are a partial reason for his insanity), and for Rousseau (who's team decide to investigate a signal that repeated the numbers before the crashed on the island).

i hope that in the next season, the mystery about those numbers will be revealed so that it will be clear to the viewers. but i think that the network/writer will keep those numbers.thank you for posting.

I'm not sure why the numbers are cursed. I'm not too sure the writers know why they are cursed either. I hope they explain that soon.

The numbers are a huge part of the show and are another mystery of the island; hence, no one really knows what they mean for sure. They appear in a variety of ways in the show either grouped as a whole, individually, or in small groups. Also (I forget what the actual canister was) but on one of the Dharma cams it has a number which is the product of all the '(un)lucky numbers'.

We don't really know what the numbers mean. I think they were the same numbers that Rousou and her group picked up on a transmission that brought them to the island, but I'm not sure I have that correct. We don't know why they are bad luck because we don't yet know what they stand for.

yes i think that is the frequency that brought them to the island. and seats on the plane. and hurley's lucky numbers. and the numbers on the hatch. whoa!!

They just are. Remember the man in the mental hospital kept saying them over and over? And when Hurley won the lottery with the numbers he freaked out. They were just unlucky to begin with and Hurley didn't know beforehand.

They were the numbers the guy in the asylum used to mutter all the time. Hurley played them in the lottery, and won all that money, then everything started going wrong. His father came back, his house he bought his mother burned down, the chicken joint he used to work at blew up. Just bad numbers, bad luck.

For some reason, I am thinking the numbers were stolen by the guy in the asylum.
