Most of the time when people cough, they will cover their mouths but there are times where I will see some one who doesn't cover their mouths. That is one of my pet peeves. When you cough, especially if its a cough due to a cold or flu,you are spreading your germs around and it really irritates me when I see someone coughing without covering the mouth especially when that person has the flu or a cold. What are your views on this?

its really rude when someone does that. i remember one time in the train, this guy coughed lousily in front of my pregnant wife without covering his mouth, i guess just out of instinct, i shouted at him and punched his nose and bled heavily. good thing we we're already approaching the next station. hehe..

I can not even begin to tell you how much it buggs me when people don't cover their mouth when they cough.I hate it when someone sits across from you while you are eating and then they cough without covering their mouth.I have stood up before and told them thanks for ruining my food.I mean do they really think I want to eat their germs? It's not polite to cough without covering and parents need to teach there kids early to put a hand in front of your mouth when having to do so.How els is a child to learn?

I agree with you on everything you said. I really get nauseated when someone is eating and doesn't cover the mouth. I always hear that kids don't have any manners but you can't expect them to have any if they aren't taught

I will try not to cough out loud. Otherwise I will probably cough into my hands, then go and wash them.

I do unless it just kinda sneaks out on me. And actually, we are training our kids to cough into their elbow not thier hand. That way if they touch someone with their hand less germs get transferred. At least that is the theory.

I am so glad that you are teaching your kids to not spread germs. I don't think there would be as many sick people if those people would stop spreading germs

hello there. :) yes, i do cover my mouth when i cough because my mother has trained me to do so. :) and i agree with you, sometimes, when i am commuting in a bus full of other people and sometimes they just cough without minding their manners and etiquette, i really get irritaed because its as if they dont care if their cough virus will spread around or not.

I don't know why people dont care about spreading germs around. It only takes a second to cover their mouths.I don't think we would have half the sick people we have if more people would take the time to prevent germs from spreading

Yes, it bugs me too when people don't cover their mouths when they cough. I always do, and when I have a cold I try to always carry kleenex with me. I have recently heard though, that it is better to cough into your shoulder or sleeve of your shirt instead of your hand. Because your hands come into so much more contact with things that others are likely to touch.

I always cover my mouth and turn my head away from people if I cough or sneeze. But, a lot of people, and their kids, don't bother. It just spreads germs, and you will most likely get ill from them.

I always, always cover my mouth when coughing, or sneezing for that matter. I wouldn't like anyone coughing or sneezing on me so I repay the favour by not doing it to anyone else. Besides I think it's a healthy thing to do for myself...

i always cover my mouth when coughing and have taught my children to do the same. I think it is rude and shows a lack of manners to cough without covering. It's not like it takes alot of effort.

This is also one of my pet-peeves.....I taught my children and grandchildren to cover their mouths from the time they were old enough to understand what I was saying... To not cover your mouth, is one of the most disgusting habits...worse than chewing with your wouth open...to me! The germs expelled through a person's mouth when they cough is forced throughout all of the surrounding air which we then have to breathe in....YUCK!!!

If I cough or sneeze I will cover my mouth..One time I went to sneeze and I opened the neck of my shirt and sneezed in there, the first sneeze was controlled, but the second sneeze was so forceful I blew my gum on to my bra....I laughed so hard...Everyone should cover their mouths when coughing or sneezing...and hopefully wash their hands immediately afterwards.

Oh, I don't cover my mouth with my hands...at least I try not to. There's really no difference in covering your mouth with your hand than not covering it at all. Using your elbow is the best route to go. You don't use your elbow to grab things, unless you're super talented that is, but you do use your hands often. Germs go easily from hand to other objects. I always try to use my elbow!

As long as the mouth is covered. I can see your point with using your elbow. I really hate to see people coughing without covering their mouths

Yes I always cover my mouth when i cough and i always turn away from people. The other day on the train, a man was coughing very hard and he did not even bother to cover his mouth and just kept coughing and coughing and coughing away. I think the least you can do is to cover your mouth when you cough to at least seem like you are trying to avoid spreading the germs all over the place.

I always, always cover my mouth when coughing. I got taught to as a little kid and that then becomes habit and carries through to adulthood. Not only is it polite, but it prevents the spread of germs that cause colds and many other ailments. I also cover my mouth when I sneeze... I don't want all my mouth spittle flying around the room and into unsuspecting innocents!

I think it is bad manners not to cover your mouth when you cough regardless of the reason for the cough. I was taught that you use an open hand to cover your mouth and turn your head away from the people if you have to cough. Even better is to use a hankie or tissue to cover your mouth. I was also taught that you need to excuse yourself and wash your hands if possible after coughing too. This will help keep you from spreading the germs with your hands too. Thank goodness we now have those little bottles of hand sanitizer that we can carry with us when soap and water are not available.
