My daughter started her new summer job yesterday. She is working in the kennel at the local vets office.
New Yorkshire Terrier puppies were born yesterday, and she and the other kennel worker got to give them temporary names. They named them after country singers...
4 boys---Willie (Nelson) Rascal (Flatts) Wilson (Gretchen) and Pickles (After Kelly Pickler)
2 girls---Reba (McEntire) and Paisley (Brad)
What was your favorite summer job when you were younger?

That sounds like a lot of fun for her. My favorite summer job was when I worked at a local stable in exchange for jumping lessons. I even got to keep my horse there so he could teach the horse at the same time. It was a lot of fun and some hard work. Mostly just cleaning stalls and exercising horses so there was fun involved...lol I even got to lead a few trail rides when someone was out sick or busy with something else.

Wow! My son's girlfriend works at a stable now. She has to get up at 5:00 every morning to go to feed and exercise the horses. She is doing it in exchange for boarding for her horses. My hat is off to you because I know how hard Lakyn works.

She is having fun. Yesterday, she said they gave a dog a bath that weighed over 100 pounds and kept trying to give them kisses while she and Gina were trying to wash him.

It is funny since I am cleaning offices and such. My first summer job as a teen was cleaning peoples houses. It was a good starting out job for me. I hope your daughter likes it very much and that it is a beginning of a good work career in some fashion. My daughter will be old enough to work this fall. Wish us luck!!

I will do that! My daughter's first job was at Sonic Drive in. She didn't have a very good manager so it wasn't much fun for her. Last summer she worked at an amusement park here in our town in the kiddie ride department. She liked it ok, but didn't want to go back this summer.

I too have started with an internship this summer. Unfortunately, i won't get paid for the work I do. The internship is a structured course set up by our college and we will be graded on the basis of what we do in the organization. It will be a wonderful exposure to corporate life , and will make my vacations a bit more interesting.

My son had one of those jobs this spring. He got a $40 stipend each week for gas and that was it. He was working with a group of about 100 youth. He said he had fun and to tell you that he learned alot.

I did lawn & yard work for a couple of neighbors when I was too young to get a real summer job. I loved it. I was able to work on my tan while working & was paid pretty nicely considering how young I was.
It was definitely a whole lot better than my first "real" job working in a busy seafood resterant. That was hard work & I always smelt like fish- ick!

Before I had back surgery, mowing was my favorite chore to do. I would get outside and soak up the sun, and sing and pray. The only one who could hear me was God. People thought I was crazy when I told them that back surgery took away my quiet time with God!

I always was a baby sitter when I was too young to do any other work. My mom was not in favor of it at first. She thought it would be too much responsibility. Then one day she looked out, and we had about twenty kids in our yard, because our house and my brother and sister, were the only people and place that everyone could play at. I was "watching the kids" so she could do the laundry. After that she felt I might as well do it in a way that I could get paid. I went to work at the Last Frontier Council, Boy Scouts of America, when I finished high school a semester early. I think that was my first job other than baby sitting. It was basic office support.

I babysat some in high school too. One summer, I had these really bratty kids. The boy was just mean. He had these Japanese stars that are actually weapons and when he would get mad, he would throw those at his little sister. I don't know where those kids are now. I suspect the boy is probably in jail for assault. lol

that is so cool. My girls take ballet, modern and interpretive dance. They don't offer tap in the after school program here at their school...mostly because we didn't have anyone to teach it.

Oh my son would love that! He is such an outdoors person. He is going to the Philippines for 2 weeks on a mission trip, and didn't have much success with finding a job before he left. no one wanted to hire him for 2 weeks when he got home from college, knowing that he was going to be gone for 2 weeks.

My daughter is crazy! She has such a great personality. This didn't surprise me at all about her. Her fiancee just shook his head when she told him about it. He said I can't wait to hear what she comes up with for our kids.

I didn't get to do very many different summer jobs when I was younger. My first one was strawberry picking. It was not fun! Being a redhead and fair skinned, I had to keep myself covered as much as possible. Being covered and with the heat, my gosh, it was terrible. After about 2 weeks I quit! I wasn't making that much anyway and it didn't seem worth the trouble.
Then I got a job at a restaurant as a "kitchen helper". Now I had fun at that one. I got to learn how to make a lot of good food by watching my boss and I got to run the fryers. Yes, that was hot too but not so bad. Drinks were free and so was a lunch consisting of any sandwich on the menu with one side order if you worked at least 6 hours.

I can imagine! My daughter is very fair skinned but blonde. she burns, and then she freckles. She's like you...it's too hot to wear long sleeves and jeans, so she tries to use as high an SPF sunscreen as she can.

My favorite summer job was working at a drive-in movie theatre. I actually loved it so much I stayed on there even after I graduated college and worked nights there after working a long day in a law office. I made some great friends there and saw some wonderful and forgetful movies and along the way was introduced to some colorful characters, some of them arrived in the trunk of another person's car.

that's funny! We used to have a drive in theater here in my town. My aunt and uncle owned it. Then they got too elderly to do it anymore and neither of their kids wanted it, so they sold it. I remember going to the movies there when I was a young girl, getting popcorn and cokes and just having so much fun~

I lived in the country while I was growing up. We had pigs, chickens and goats. I miss it sometimes. We live in the country, but I can't convince my husband to buy me a goat.
