My husband seen this game at his friends house and thought I would enjoy it. He called me and asked me to check it out. The screenshots that I have seen so far look pretty good. I like that you can pick different races and things like that it looks really neat. Do you like this game? I'll be getting it for the PC. Any pointers you can give me would be nice also.

oblivion is a great game with interesting features and fanatsic graphics. But I think the character models can be made to look better. There are some mods out there that gives some great change to the game. Be sure to get some.
Also, grab a copy of shivering isle together with oblivion, I was blasted away by the graphics when I first step into shivering isle, I mean I've never came across another game that has such beautiful graphics! I was so touched! =)

It's an awesome game, but do make sure you meet the high system requirements. It's still fun played on lower graphics and all, but with that it's just so much more real, you can just find yourself walking around through the grasslands being amazed as you see the wind going through the grass whilst you see a waterfall flowing in the background as all of the sudden you're attacked by a wolf on which you can truly see the high detail in his fur :D.
It's a bit of a shame overall that the map size was reduced in comparison to Morrowind, the predecessor of Oblivion, but still the landscape is quite vast.
What is a major shame is that the main quest is rather short, playing rapidly not going through the side quests one can be done in about 5 hours with the game. But if he enjoys RPG's and fantasy games in general he'll probably be going through every single little side quest as well along with exploring all the dungeons which are hidden throughout the world, and there's a lot of them!
Not to mention that as you buy it for the PC there's a bunch of great mods in production or already partially available which vastly expand the land of Tamriel beyond just Cyrodiil.
Hammerfell is in example being worked on by: http://www.tamriel-rebuilt.org/
Vardenfell is being worked on by:

And finally but definitely not least, Silgrad Tower!

The last is one of the most detailed and best worked out additions to the game being created, it was one of the top mods for Morrowind and for oblivion the work is in good progress as well with many people helping out.
In short, it simply is an awesome game ;).
