I have a question about apple pies

I am planning on making an apple pie this week end as I have a lot of apples and I don't want them to get spoiled. I have only two kinds of apples: green and red. My question is: can I make an apple pie with these kind of apples? I have always made apple pies with the yellow apples. So have you ever made an apple pie with apples that are not yelow and did it taste just as delicious as the one with yellow apples? Thank you!

we never make apple pie but sometimes we eat apples although I am more to banana and orange. I think fruit wise red is sweeter than the other apples, but then again you can always add sugar or something sweeter if you make a pie

Yes you can make apple pies out of these apples. The trick is figuring out exactly how much sugar & cinnamon to add to them. With the RED apples I would add less as I seem to think they are much more sweeter apples. Where as the GREEN apples are a bit more tart so I would add a little bit MORE sugar to take away some of that tartness UNLESS the people eating the pies LIKE it that way. YOu can also leave the recipe as is & serve it was some ice cream & caramel sauce to tame some of the tartness :] good luck :} it sounds good!

if you make it with red ones it will be good. the red ones according to me are Fuji Apples. these are sweet and good in taste. in making pies these are used. they are typically large or very large and round, on average the size of a baseball. they are very dense, i mean the flesh is too, it is dense so one can use it in making a pie. i wish you best of luck for making apple pie and wish that it comes out to be supe awesome.

I think either would be fine just check them for sweetness and add sugar accordingly. LIVE IN PEACE

I had tried the green apple and it turns out not that great- a little sour (which is fine i like it) ,but not so tender.Because green apples usually are more crunchy and sour. I like cortland apple (red color) which is best for pie. It's sweet and juicy. Somehow,it depends on individual some may like sour and crunchy pie .So ,it's ok to try any kinds of apple ,who knows it might turn out great . You can be creative and change the recipe and create your own recipe..hoe cool is it. For example if you use the green apple you may want to add a litlle extra sugar but no lime juice to make it sweeter. How about that.. Well wish you all the best, hope you make a wondergul delicious apple pie..good luck!

I know McIntosh are bad for baking pie but most others will do fine. It's nice to mix up apple varieties in one pie too...green AND red for tart and sweet mix.
