For over a year now hubby and I have tried to enjoy a little chocolate every day. We have read lots of information about how good it is for you. I read an article on a newsletter just now that explains more than I have read so far, and I will enclose a link at the end of this discussion. The verdict is still out, but some people would like at least one component of chocolate labeled as a vitamin. I will let you read it for yourself:http://www.nubella.com/content/view/3249/58/

I know chocolate can be good for you in some ways, the darker the better, becuase it has anti-oxidants in it, and is also purported to reduce stress and even help with sore throats. However, it also has lots of sugar and fat in it, which isn't so good for you! Like everything it's probably best for you when eaten in moderation.

Yes, we want to avoid too much sugar and fat. That is why we are selective about the kind we get. The link even talked about the health benefits to those who drink cocoa. It is the cocoa part of the chocolate that is good for us. It has antioxidents. Yes, I had heard about helping the sore throats, and also soothing a cough better than a codeine cough syrup. There are a lot of things we should be more moderate about, and careful of the composition. I just have fun with this idea because it shows that the pendulum continues to swing on what is healthy and what is not.

hmm. What do I know about chocolate?
1. It is the closest thing to heaven on Earth.
2. It is better than s*x. (well, almost)
3. It is responsible for at least 3 of the 4 inches that my waistline has increased in the last 2 years
4. One might as well lay me to rest if I can't have an ounce or two of the decadent treat per day!
4. White chocolate is even better than brown chocolate!
5. Dark chocolate is better than both of the above!
6. Chocolate keeps me on the straight and narrow, as I'm afraid that their might not be any chocolate in he!!
7. One is never too young or old for chocolate
8.Chocolate can comfort me in the worst of times.
9. Chocolate is addicting (at least it is for me) I can't eat just one bite!
10. Hey, it has Calcium in it, so it isn't all bad! Gotta have strong bones!

I have been hearing about some benifits of chocolate. But still I control myself from eating chocolate, because of the sugar and fat issue. May be now I would not feel much guilty about eating chocolate like I did before. I will focous on dark chocolate though:).
Thank you for the link.

I read bits of the site. As I am a chocolate lover, I am keen to find good reasons too, apart from the need to loose weight.
It makes sense that there are health benefits from pure cocoa.
The trouble is, a lot of chocolate is adultered. I stick to Cadburys, Nestles or Dove, whicgh are pure.

Dove chocolate is the brand of chocolate that has been being studied by Duke University for its health benefits. It has shown quite well. That is what we buy.

Chocolates are sinful. No matter how overweight you are a person always craves for a chocolate and you can never be satisfied with a little of it.However, to be specific chocolate comes from a bean called cocoa.
My first chocolate was a Dairymilk and I still love it the most as it is simply chocolate with no extra flavouring.

Chocolate does wonderful things for the Human body, it's also one of the toughest ingrediants to work with in cooking, my hat's off to Chocolatiers World Wide, for they know their Craft very well...
Most people would be astonished at the amount of work that goes into making a simple piece of ( Artisan) chocolate... so when you bite into that sweet creation, take a moment to appreciate the work of a true Artist in the culinary world! :)

Thank you for the link. I can now eat my chocolate and relax a bit. I use it to help lower my blood pressure when I find it to be a bit high.

Thank you for the link. I have been hearing for some time that dark chocolate is good for you but milk chocolate is not so good for your health.

Well I've been reading for a while that chocolate has many benefits. The darker the better and that's great for me, it's my favorite. I would like to see it listed as a vitamin.

What I know about chocolate is that it tastes good and eating it gives me great pleasure.
The fact that it now seems to be good for you is an added bonus, but I seriously wouldn't care even if it were bad for you.
I think it should named as a major food group.

What do I know about chocolate? Easy, its unbelievably delicious, LOL! Here's an interesting article I read (Healthy Options lifestyle newsdigest, May/June issue).
Chocolate is the sweetened and processed form of cacao tree fruit and it has a natural source of flavanoids similar to those found in tea. It contains substances that help prevent blood clots and coronary plaque. Chocolate also seems to increase HDL (good cholesterol levels) and contains small amounts of magnesium, potassium, protein, phosphorous, calcium and iron.

I am with you. The verdict is still out as for the health benefits. I can tell you that for the emotional benefits-after I've had a horrible day at work, or if I'm just down in the dumps about something, nothing tastes better than a Hershey bar or a bowl of Chocolate Mint ice cream.

I also like chocolate. i like chocolate bars like snickers, milky way, baby truth, etc. i also like chocolate flavors like in ice creams or things like that. I also like milky bars. There is nothing like a sweet ice cream and chocolates to have that makes one happy. Chocolates are believed to reduce depression or stress.

To me chocolate is a science and art. I admire chocolate and I even fix it (both candies and baking chocolate cakes). Chocolates themselves can also be an aphrodisiac and in some cases can raise serotonin levels slightly. Of course there are claims and counter claims but chocolate is still a nice snack and an inevitable part of life.
