I've made the boxed Red Velvet cake before. I thought it turned out quite well. I think it is moister and tastes better if you make it a layer cake rather oblong. I put cream cheese frosting on mine. Then I shave alittle dark chocolate over the top. Makes it look fancy.

I know I might look like an ignorant person but I have to admit that after more than three decades living in this planet, it's only now that I've heard about this type of cake. Stupid, ain't I?
Anyway, I've always been fascinated by cakes. And I'm a sweet tooth by the way, from cakes to pastries, brownies, ice cream, ice cream cake, you name it! Unfortunately, I haven't tried baking an actual cake even once. My reason then was because we don't have an oven in the household. But now, I can't use that same reason anymore; because my parents gave me and my husband an oven as wedding gift more than five years ago. However, we decided to leave it in my parents' house in the province for the time being. Until now, we haven't used it because we are still paying off most of our outstanding monetary obligations where almost all of my monthly salary goes. Hopefully, after paying them all off, we'll be able to save for our own house and lot.
But if you have some cake recipes, traditional or otherwise, including internet sites covering this topic, kindly do share them with us.
Thanks in advance and happy baking. Regards.

My father-in-law LOVES this cake, so I made the mix cake for his 50th birthday this past spring. I separated the mix into two parts, making two cakes in 9x9 pans. Then I put cream cheese icing between the two and stacked them. It's an awesome cake, really moist and good.
When you first put it in the pan it looks gross haha. But I love the color after it's baked!
