Associated Content Denial Jerks

I type up things for associated Content and make pretty good money. I see a lot of people complain on here about payment and article denial and ect. Well I was just wondering if anyone has ever felt that they were being treated like an isiot or that the staff person responding was being a jerk to them or wise-butt? I got a denial message on an article that was a news story and they copy pasted the entire page length rules for submitting into the little message section on the side ha ha..why? The reason I was denied was because it said I did not cite other sources I may have used for the material, but the fact is I did not USE other sources online or other for the story...thought that was funny..anyway...

If a site says post your sources do it! If you haven't used any other sources than this statement is appropriate:
"The sources used in this article were my own personal experiences on the subject matter." Or you can use your own name, and if you have a website..a good place to promote it. Just make sure you type up something on the subject you wrote on and put it there LOL

I know..my point was I have been writing there forever and know the rules, the simple response would have been sufficient to me, but they pasted a whole page worth of rule stuff taking up my area as a reply...just seemed above and beyond in a sort of sarcastic way...lol...the news story in question wasn't an opinion piece either it was me being a reporter and covering it because I live in California and work in the entertainment industry...all sources were named as the people I got the info from..was just weird...not that it bothers me, just thought it was an odd response on their part without the writer being able to give a response back really..heh..was curious if others have had moments they thought they were being jerked around...for example I had one denial that stated "we do not pay for movie reviews"...on an article that had ZERO to do with movies..ha ha

Usually when they deny mine, they don't even bother with a reaon; once it was a sort of rude comment about how my news article wasn't original enough (I took some of the information from a press release...in quotes of course, and cited the new release.) Not sure what they wanted on that one. I try and let them fall off me. I think that the person who replied to you probably was just taking a lazy way out.

Most of my articles that have the most page views come directly from news articles I ended up submitting for non-payment because they wouldn't accept them because the subject wasn't "broad" enough. One of the topics was about a US airline, and the other two were pretty mainstream things going on in sports, but alas, I haven't tried to figure out the beast that is AC yet.

Sorry about all the typos in my answer. Usually I am much better than that. Fingers moving too fast.
As far as Associated Content, it is a puzzle what they consider "news." If we knew that, we'd be "in the money," as they say. Good luck with your writing over there.

That's good for you, ArsonCuff, but a sad statement about the "reading" public, don't you think?

An article I wrote about drivers who can't seem to figure out how to use turn signals was rejected, and the reason given was that it would have a "short shelf life". Where does this editor live? I want to live in a place where everyone uses turn signale correctly! I re-submitted the article, putting it in the "travel" category instead of whatever one I'd used before, and it was accepted. It's gotten comments from readers who agree with what it says, so everything worked out in the end.

I've only had a few articles denied for publication, and I usually just take them and submit them elsewhere. At least most of the denial reasons I have gotten have been civil.

What is really aggravating is when you follow the exact guideline rules and then someone else has their article published first in the news section and there's does not...and looks just like the style you had denied previously for not following the rules...ha ha...double standard seems in play and scoring some major aggravation points with some people.

The last two rejections I received had particularly annoying reasons in the comments section. I had posted to book reviews, both were non-fiction titles. They rejected both saying they typically don't accept book reviews for novels and then they listed why novels don't really work on the site.
Duh.
Anyone with a brain knows a non-fiction book ISN'T a novel. The definition of a novel clearly states it's a work of FICTION. So, this tells me the editors there are skimming sometimes because I noted about a dozen times that both books were non-fiction works.
I was so frustrated. I emailed, but no response was received. I tried submitting them again and, in the comments, the put the EXACT same comments.
grrrrrr.

There have been a lot of problems with plagiarism on AC lately, especially in the news section. So they're being extra cautious about citing sources... which sometimes ends up biting the CPs in the butt. I would shoot them an email (or even post in the forums, maybe) and tell them that the story doesn't have cited sources because you didn't use other sources, that this is your own story that wasn't covered by someone else.

Thanks for the comment...as for e-mailing them, often times the turn around rate can be slow if it isn't something of importance, which in this case I have other things to do than bother with it...I was really just curious if others ever felt the rejection person was goofing around on them...thanks for the comment though...

Very interesting! I belong to AC but haven't had a chance to write anything yet. If they are a bunch of big jerks maybe I will post to some other site instead. You would think they would be nicer since you are giving up your rights to anything they buy.

I got a few rejection notices - but they were weird. One was for a book and another an air freshener. Both said that there was similar content at the site but when I went to search for both of them - with various strings - there wasn't anything even close to either of them. I kept them on the computer and plan to redo them a little and resubmit them.
