What is the minimum amount of money you would need to survive..not necessarily superflously but to have your basic needs met?
For me..I could survive with $1000.00 a month but that would leave no room for surprise bills ..hospital visits or doctors;)+

Sure we have bills. LOL But we're frugal and cut out a lot of the "needs" that most people assume they can't live without.
Rent $250
Utilities $100
Gas $100
Groceries $150
And there are a few extras like our cell phone plan ($50) and the cable ($25). If I grew more in the garden and cut out some of the junk we could probably cut our grocery bill down to $100. We could cut out cable, which I would prefer but my partner would go stir crazy. We've got no credit cards, our car is paid for, we don't have any loans to pay off, and the boys are still little enough that they don't really need much. In fact we just now got the cell phones, we've lived the last 2 years without a phone at all. Oh, and we don't pay for internet service. We live near a hotel that has free wireless internet and my laptop picks up the signal perfectly.

Currently my income is just under £900 and I can just about manage to pay the bills and buy enough food for me and the kids. I could probably save a little more if I tried really hard, but I think that unless I was on my own in a one bedroomed place I couldn't reduce it by much.

Well, we have a pretty high car payment ($540) that we are still a little bit upside down on, so we would have to keep that. The reason we have such a high one is because we traded in the truck that my husband had before we got married, for a four door. And since we owed more than it was worth, we could only get financing on a new one.
Anyway, we are getting ready to buy our first house. The payments are going to be just under $300 a month, and water, electricty, sewer, and trash is estimated to be around $150 per month. Then we will have propane to pay when it comes time to fill up, so we need to save money for that every month.
We also have two student loans, that equal about $200 when combined. And two credit cards, that are ALMOST paid off, but not quite. We are paying $150 each on them right now, but could cut back to half of that if we had to.
My husband is required to have a phone for work, so we would have to keep it. We have Vonage, and it combined with our high speed internet and cable is about $85. We could get rid of the cable TV if we had to, though. We could get rid of the paper and XM radio, so I guess that's all of our bills.
For groceries, cleaning supplies, and diapers I spend around $250 each month. When we move, we will be paying around $200-225 per month for gas.
Oh, and our car insurance and house insurance if divided into month increments will run around $150 or so a month.
So I guess it would take us almost twice as much money to live as it does you. By the end of the year we will have one student loan and one credit card paid off, though, so that will make our numbers go down below $2000 anyway.

I think it would be closer to $1200 or $1300 US dollars for our monthly expenses, including rent, food, Internet etc.
Our basic bills before food, gas and household necessities are almost $1000 by themselves.
And, those are non-negotiable items like rent and electric. Basically, just the money it would take to keep us living indoors with running water and lights.
Rent is very expensive here, and we were lucky to find such a cheap house to live in.
Most people here are paying closer to $1000-$2000 monthly or more just to rent a place, not to mention buy.
Back where we used to live the rent was around $300 month for a house. But, there were no jobs to work at and no income. And, the jobs that were available paid barely minimum wage.
So, we traded low bills for a better paying jobs and higher rent.
And, of course our expenses are higher now anyway with a child, but I think that I am more frugal, so it all works out. We end up living a pretty good lifestyle on barely any money as is.

300 dollars are o.k. This is arround 600 levs. When i pay all the home bills -i will have arround 400 levs for food. And if i am simple and buy only the basic things without so much to spoil myself-it`s ok.
This money are for single household only of myself.

Well, if we cut down to just the basics (house, utilities, gas, car payments and minimum creditcard and loan payments) and axed things like one of our cell phones (we have no house phone, so we would have to keep one), and the internet, we could probably get by on about $1400 a month for the two of us. Like you said, that would be with no "surprises" or annual bills added in, like car and house insurance.

My husband and I live totally on his social security check, which is $1100/month. We actually do okay with this for the most part as we have always lived well within our means. We worked hard to pay a little extra on the morgage in the early years of our marriage, paying off our home in just over 7 years. We always fixed up and resold our houses, working up in value. When we were forced into early retirement due to accident and ill health we owned everything free and clear. I actually think we could 'survive' on less than $500/month.

I wish I could have payed my house off in 7 years. We have only been in our home for 6 years but we still owe more than half of it and we thought we were doing good. Great job!

I've been budgeting for a while now and I've figured out, with just me, I can live comfortable, have my bills paid and put money savings with 1600 a month. I'm trying to get this down, but with 10,000 a month, I thing that I could live with that too!
