1. Type "about:config" into the address bar and hit enter. Scroll down and look for the following entries:
2. Alter the entries as follows:
Set "network.http.pipelining" to "true"
Set "network.http.proxy.pipelining" to "true"
set "network.http.pipelining.maxrequests" to some number like 30. This means it will make 30 requests at once.
3. Lastly right-click anywhere and select New- Integer. Name it "nglayout.initialpaint.delay" and set its value to "0". This value is the amount of time the browser waits before it acts on information it recieves.
Let me know if this works!

How can I back up this about:config list before altering it? I don't have provisions to backup my whole system. I suppose I might be able to backup to DVDs but I don't have many.

Wow. Thanks so much! I not only had to change every key you suggested, I had no idea this "about:config" bit even existed. Granted, I haven't read up much on the whole thing, but I have been having a few problems here and there.
Most notably is that when I open more than two tabs on the same page then close one, it has a tendency to close them all, shutting down the whole browser. It also sometimes does this just out of the blue.
Thanks again. I'll let you know the results.
