Scoliosis of the spine is a medical term for a curved spine. This causes imbalances in the body with severe problems if the curvature is severe.I found out some time ago that I have scoliosis. That finally explained why one side of my waist and shoulder blades were always lower than the other. The most common repercussion of this is back pain, which for me has increased after having my baby.I would love to hear anyone with the problem, and also qualified doctors or nurses who are members here who could tell me more about the effects of having scoliosis.Does it also become severe as age progresses?I would love to hear more about it.Please do share yor knowledge and views on this.

Scoliosis isn't really something that can get totally better, but you can definitely strengthen your core and abdonimal muscles to compensate for the lack of support. I started targeting those areas soon after I found out I had scoliosis at age 12, then when I had my son, it was the easiest labor and delivery my doctors had seen in years, thanks to the exercises. So definitely keep working at it, you'll feel better, be able to breathe and sleep better, and you'll be able to maintain proper sitting and standing posture much longer with stronger core muscles.

I am glad you found it when you were that young.I would not even have known the term, let alone know that I have scoliosis.Actually,my delivery was a very easy one and it was at that time when they were inserting the needle for epidural that I was told I have scoliosis. It was confirmed later in a routine medical x-ray.I am planning to start a yoga regimen too, which I think will help.I am also planning to go for another checkup as I now think that the curves is getting a bit more than it was before..

Yoga is probably the best thing I could've done to help my back. A plus, I lost my baby fat!!!! Until my son came along anyway. Still working on that one, lol. Good luck

I have scoliosis and the pain also increased after having my baby, probably because of the weight gain during pregnancy and carrying my baby around. Sadly I don't have time to go to a chiropractor or physical therapist for treatment anymore, I just swim and do pilates to help increase muscles tone & flexibility. I noticed that if I don't exercise even for one day, my back and right shoulder really hurts.

I was diagnosed with scoliosis around age 11. They made me wear a back brace and do some exercises at home. And, then they told me that once I hit 18 I shouldn't worry about it because my spine won't grow any more so the scoliosis won't get any worse. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case. I'm in Korea teaching ESL now and decided to get a check-up from a local chiropractor. I found that my curve has gotten worse. I've been doing physical therapy 3 times a week. But, I've been told my curve won't straighten up any. But, I work out regularly and my posture has improved. I'm going to start yoga soon because I haven't had any kids but I am concerned about what will happen when I do. Also, for those with back pain I've heard that acupuncture is very effective.
