For most people, Memorial Day is a celebration day; a day that says "Summer is almost here." We break out the grills, and have friends over for fun and games. But did you know, that Memorial Day was set up to honor soldier of the Civil War. That's right, this day was set to honor both Union and Confederate soldiers who died fighting for what they believed in. It was a grim time in our country, and both sides felt they were doing what was right for them. It doesn't matter if you are a Yankee or a Southerner much these days, but in 1864, it mattered alot. My great, great, great grandfather participated in this war, and was wounded in the hand. He survived, but many of his friends and fellow soldier did not. So tomorrow, as you are firing up your grills, remember those soldier of 140 years ago, remember a time when our country was torn in half, and honor what they fought for.
