Let’s pretend that you have secret of youth and immortality. Everybody wants to have it.
Would you give it away, sell it, publish it...or?
For how long do you think you would stay alive?
Who would like to know your secret first?
Would you have ethical dilemma to give it away?

Well if it's the secret of youth and immortality.. i'd assume i'd be young and live forever. As to what i'd do with it besides use it, that depends on how much of it there is, can be made, how it's made, etc.
If it's a cheap and easily created substance, then i'd give it freely.. to some people. Namely those I can determine lived a good a noble life, but are sick and dying of terminal illnesses.
The problem with this type of thing is that we have so much hunger and misery in the world, that if we all became immortal there would be a serious food and space shortage within the next few decades, unless the serum rendered you sterile.
I'd probably dispense it personally to a few people I run across, in a much diluted form simply to heal illnesses. Then if humanity seems to be willing to work out its problems, feed the hungry, and start roaming the stars, i'd unveil my 'new secret formula'

Yeah you may be right, if the army were really as all powerful and omniscient as most people think. Having been a soldier in the us army I know just how unlikely it is they'd even FIND me much less know I had this secret.
If they don't know I have developed or located something like this, how could they organize a response team to take it from me? Heck half the time it takes them months just to sort out which color of spray paint they want to use on duffel bags. (I lived through a moment similar to that. It took my chain of command three weeks to decide how they wanted the bags painted on the bottom. all we needed was, name, last four of our social security number, unit designation, and red and white paint. they spent weeks deciding which part goes first. the name or the unit. tac dollars at work.)

hmmmmmm good question.
Think I would only like it if I looked and felt young as for how long that would be a question in its self I would say some people just get tired of living thats when they give up . And I think if I had it and it worked I would have to sell it but not for much would want to make to much money on it but that is just me! And you would have to scan the people ya sell it too wouldnt want to sell or give to a rapest or murderer

Going to try this again. My first one got deleted :(
I would give it away or sell it to a select few. I would not give it to the general populace though. It's not because I want it just for myself. There are actually two reasons why I wouldn't sell it or give it to all the world. The first being that most people could not handle living forever. They would go crazy. The second is the Earth could not handle having the populace not dying off. We'd soon be over populated and there would not be enough food or even room for all the people. So instead I'd keep it for myself and perhaps sell/give it to select few who I thought could handle it.

Thanks :) I'm glad you think so. Not sure who I would give it to but of course some could have already gotten it and we just don't know. Interesting to think about anyways.

You know, I saw this question and have been thinking about it. I would give the secret away, but it would be selectively.
I really don't understand people who have so much plastic surgery to keep young that they look scary, they are on pure ego trips. I would give it to people who were young at heart, the person who thinks and acts young and would like to look younger but are not obsessed with it.
I think the people with the obsession already have enough problems. They neither deserve nor need the secret of youth or immortality. I know I am being judgemental..but sorry I am tired of the people on ego trips.

This brings me a couple of images in my mind.
One is if I tried to sell it would it just be like the infomercials that are on today with the miracle cures that are usually not much more then healthy and natural living.
Another is using it to bring me power and fame, becoming part of the elite of the world.
But the final image is the one that seems to stick.
Years ago was a tv show, the millionare I think it was called. An unnamed millionare would give a million dollars to a person on the grounds that he couldn't tell anyone. They followed the person around to see how he would react.
Not exactly like that, but I would use the secret to find deserving people who, on the grounds that they never told anyone, would get the secret.
How much more work could Mother Teresa do with the secret.
How about Nelson Mendela and his work against Apartheid in South Africa.
Ghandi in India and Pakistan.
How many more inventions could Edison have come up with, or could Stephen Hawkings find the elusive Theory of Everything.
The only problem would be like Jesus in Jesus Christ Superstar, there's too many of you, and too little of me. How and who do I choose?

wow...I guess we would have to keep them all alive forever..Jesus, Ghandi, Mother Teresa...and many others...
miracle cures? you are right, anyone can make one in 5 seconds...it is the bigger scam ever...
the elixir of youth is on the way..watch next 20 years or so...nono technology is going to be able to cure any disease on cellular level..

i like the idea of staying alive forever, and if i have the secret of being young and immortal forever, perhaps, i can still give it..its not that i want to be a noble one but for sure, i will got bored staying in this same place forever, i want to give it a try to discover the second life that i believe there is...if we really believe there is a second life we can give it to others especially that if this person really needs to live for a very good purpose...

I already believe the secret to a long, youthful life rests inside of that glorious invention resting in the space between your ears. The mind and thoughts can conquer all. That secret would be for all to share. It is not for sale, it is always free to those who ask for it. If I stayed alive for a thousand years would it be enough? Then why not 2,000 years? Or 10,000 years?
No matter how long life goes on, it would never be long enough.
I would share my secret with everyone. The problem is, many would kill me for the secret so that they could sell it or keep it for themselves. There would be millions of vain and greedy people knocking upon my door. And not a one of them would have a clue as to what to do with immortality. It would not be enough for any of them because if you cannot live in this time, as it is, with what you have now, you will never be happy or satisifed with something more.

This is a thought I think everyone has, including me. However, the more I think about it the more I realize I would not like to stay any longer than God gives me. I try to stay young, and that maens contact with young people, but I never feel like I want to be the same age as them.
Maybe in a few years when I turn seventy, I'll change my mind, but I doubt it.

If I get to know the secret of youth and immortality, then I would never ever disclose it in public, because I think that will make this planet crash with population and crime. but yes I would be a selfish to apply that to my own body, to stay alive for many more years. Now I do not know what would be the exact year count which I may prefer, because it depends on many aspects. But there will be only a few persons with whom I would share this secret. The are my parents, my sister, my husband and his parents, and my children.

You know this discussion reminds me of the old myth about eating mermaid flesh and how it made you youthful and immortal forever. They even made an anime series out of that story. The problem is not everyone become young and beautiful, some turned into hideous nearly immortal monsters that were incredibly hard to kill.
Even if you became young and gained eternal life you quickly wish you hadn't because everyone and everything around you constantly changed, ut you didn't It's in a way similar to vampire media. The kind of gothic romance stuff where vampires are all incredibly lonely emo people who are stuck living forever but without ever knowing warmth or true love again.
Gaining youth and immortality is all well and good, depending on the price paid for it. I mean if there were horrible immediate possible drawbacks it would keep the numbers of people seeking this formula down a bit.
A few vampires or hideous monsters produced would kill interest a bit. Except in the desperate or the foolish

This is what I was thinking about...
Ha, ha...should I start distributing it or not?
Except my formula is not for immortality, just for youth...this discussion just proved, that it is not for all..:)

It would throw all laws of natural nature out of whack. It would have many ramifcations. It would obviously cause over population. If it got into the wrong hands could be horrible...Honestly, I think I would destroy it. We just arent meant to be here forever and I dont want to be. You must know as good people would use it so could evil people and they could do alot of harm for a long time. I would destroy it and let mother nature take her natural course. Otherwise you would be moraly responsible for the results of your actions.

Still question remains, how can you manage distributing it and for how long, before higher officials taken it away from you...I am sure church will be first willing to stop it...

Oh immortality is so fascinating..I was enchanted when watching Highlander for the first time as a child, not mentioning how much I loved the song Who wants to live forever by THE QUEEN. But now that I am grown up I can say just like they said in the song...after all who want to live forever??? I don't if I have to be the only one to be forever youth because I could not beat the idea of surviving all my beloved ones..too painful and meaningless..but if I could find this secret I would share it with everybody and of course with all the people I love because there is no reason in living in a place where people I love cannot be with me

I feel the same...but this world has as many bad people as good people, so, by having said that, I think that it can be stolen and misused first...by army and who knows...maybe they would sell it for billions to world leaders...scary to think about another Bush to live forever….and continue crazy war…

No I dont think I would be selfish enough to keep it to myself.
I mean what if someone really needs this to live then what kind of person would I be to deny them that right. But there is no fonutian of youth that I know of so we will all have to die sometime.
