Ok, here's my problem: I have decided many times that I will control myself with money but often times, inevitable circumstances will occur that will challenge my discipline in saving.
Most people say that it's just a matter of mind control and it takes a lot of effort and discipline to be prosperous. Anyone who can share SPECIFIC tips and advices as to how one can improve his financial situation? It will be greatly appreciated.

I think the attitude of saving money as a method of improving one's financial situation has a bit of mistake into it. Only saving money doesn't change the financial status - it only reflects it.
I, like you, decided I wish to improve my financial status. After two years, I now buy a new home for me and my fresh wife for the sum of 220,000$. Not only that - I have my own car. And you know what else? I am a full time student.
All that has to tell you it is not a matter of time, but a matter of how you view things. Are you open minded? Are you ready for new opportunities?

Healthkeep, this is the best answer that I have seen in a long time! And I think it is the key, to why a lot of people can't make ends meet, they spend uselessly trying to save, when they should increase their efforts on increasing their income,! I would like for a lot of people to take heed of this post, it would help them a lot!!!

Set yourself a budget. There are many free programs and even excel or word that you can do for free to make out a list of all your bills.. All your incoming $$$ as well go in there. Decide what you need each month and what you can live with out. Trust me, I know it's tough but it makes a difference. When you go to the grocery store, eat before going and make a list. Do not get anything that you are just impulsingly buying. Stick to your list. Allow yourself misc spending each month if your budget allows it. Hope this helps.

The same thing to me too. I really know how important the savings is.
Here's the tip: You can give your money to someone(your parents, perhaps), let him/her keep the money and never get that money back. Good Luck!
Nice topic :)

Well, things that I do:
1) I don't have any kind of special accounts or anything like that. That way my account can't go negative, so I live with the money I earn or less.
2) I usually keep my credit cards at home, and when I need them I get them at home. This helps me a lot avoid me buying something just cuz it's cool.
