I love to read. I love to almost any type of fiction except horror and just about anything non-fiction. I am looking for recommendations from folks on some new authors to check out. Lately, I have found myself going back to my old stand-by authors, and I would like to read something different. Please give me a recommendation on a particular author or book that you like. Tell me a little bit about the book or the author's genre and why you personally liked it.

James Patterson - suspense, mystery - He wrote 'Kiss the girls' and 'Along came a spider'. The books are wonderful, great story line always a new twist. There is the Alex Cross series, which I have read all of but one and now I just started the Women's Murder Club. He also has others.

A couple favorites of mine include: Jean M Auel~ she writes the Earth's Children Series that is The Clan of the Cave Bear, Valley of Horses, The Mammoth Hunters, Plains of Passage, and SHelters of Stone. They follow a girl, Ayla, from the time she is about 3 and loses her family in an earthquake. She is then found and raised by Neandrethals. The story follows her as she meets her own kind of people again and has to relearn their way of communication, and it's also a love story. Jean Aeul incorporates a lot of real findings into her fiction, and it really is interesting. I also enjoy John Saul, Dean Koontz, and Jackie Collins, among others. If you read Jackie Collins, try the Lucky Santangelo series, starting with Chances.

I recommend Alice Hoffman. All of her books are magical. Some have been made into movies, including Practical Magic with Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock...however, the books are much better of course.

Hey Budgeting Diva. If you like non-fiction, do you like historical non-fiction? Within the next month, I will be posting my book for sale at my website: http://davebrown64.info. It is called Newsletter at War. Also, you might want to take a look at Oliver North's books based on War Stories. This is not to say that you like war stories, but some are more than just blood and guts and gore. Some of them really have human interest stories. Have a great read!

I am currently reading "From the Notebooks of Dr. Brain" by Minister Faust. It is sci-fi. It is set in a world where superpowers are real, and the evil-doers for the most part have been defeated. I am only a quarter of the way though the book. It is extremely interesting in my opinion. Basically, the core of the story is that superheroes have some serious mental problems. Or at least, that is what it appears to be on the surface. Under that surface, I find myself wondering what celebrities and politicians he is modeling his characters on. Anyway, I am finding it an enjoyable read.

I just finished a book that I really enjoyed it was called "The Dante Club" and it's a murder mystery that was based on the images in Dante Aligheri's Inferno. It was really good and had me wanting to keep reading. I forget the authors name though.

I love Siri Hustvedt. I like the way she writes - she wrote about a child dying, and I felt the grief of the mother in my stomach. I would also recomend the books by Lars Saabye Christensen. He writes a lot about growing up, about family relations and about friendships.
