Did any other new moms here experience inexplicable sadness in the days and weeks after giving birth. I have been blessed with four healthy pregnancies, four normal births and four beautiful babies, and yet with each baby's birth I felt the need to cry and cry and cry for the longest time. Anybody else in here have the baby blues?

Yes DeenaD! I have 3 children, the depression was worse after the 1st. Of course I was undiagnosed Bipolar. Many people that have not experienced the Baby Blues, don't understand how bad it can be. If it gets too bad, please call your doctor!

I have two children. The first one, pregnancy and birth was great. Never had any problems when he was born. The second however, I got the baby blues quite badly. They call it the "3-day blues" because that's when it normally happens - when your baby is 3 days old. Mine was 4 days old! It was horrible. I just felt an awful sadness and didn't want anyone but my partner and that was made worse because I couldn't get hold of him! The important thing is that it doesn't continue into post natal depression. Days or a few weeks after giving birth is ok but women (and men) should be made aware that the continuation of those feelings after 3 or 4 weeks should be explained to your health professionals as it is then that it becomes apparent that it may be post natal depression.

I had baby blues which turned into Post Pardum Depression after the birth of my 2nd little girl. This time around I have been having some during my pregnancy starting a couple months ago. I haven't been seeking help or anything big time yet but have found some support groups to start going to! It's not something to joke around with if it gets bad and I am fully aware of that. I hope this time around I can get help sooner *if* it comes down to that!
