This Is What I'm Doing Today. What Are You Doing?

Today is Memorial Day here in the United States. It's a day to rembember the brave troops who have served our country.
I think we should never forget their acheivements during World War One and especially World War Two.
Many of us throughout the world could now be speaking Japaneese or German if our brave soldiers didn't make the ultimate sacrifice.
I don't know how many people know this, but Japan was so sure that they would conquere the United States, they began printing a new currancy that was to be used.
I know that there are many here and throughout the world who disagree with our involvement in Vietnam and Iraq. I am one of them. But we should never place the blame on the troops. They are following orders and doing their jobs.
We must always show them our love and support.
Now this is what I've done so far today. It's pretty hot and humid in New Jersey, so I filled my bird bath with water and put ice cubes in it. The birds are loving it.
So far this morning I've seen Robins, Doves, Finches, Black Birds, Crows and a Cardinal splashing in the water. I wish they could smile so I could see how happy they are.
I bought two frozen pizzas for a dollar each. I put one in the oven and it was awful. I only ate one slice.
So I put the rest of it outside by the birdbath and I also put the other frozen one there.
My yard now looks like a bird sanctuary. They are all over the place. I guess birds like pizza with sausage.
The house squirrel is also out there eating the crust. I have a squirrel that is pretty tame who basically lives in my yard. I haven't given him a name. Can you think of one for me?
I also bought a watermelon plant and put it in the yard. It looks like it's going to survive. It's standing up straight and is enjoying it's new home.
I watered my tomato, sunflower, herb, peppers and my six rose bushes. The roses are so beautiful. It seemed as if they all opened up over night.
I'm not going to do the traditional Memorial Day BBQ because I have so much left over food in the refrigerator.
But I am really liking this day off. Are you having a good day? I hope you are.
Tell me what you are doing and I hope everyone is having a great day.
Your friend.
Lloyd

Today we went to the Memorial Day Parade as we do each year- We go look at the wall of soldiers in our hometown. Anyone who served in the armed forces is on this wall- (names only). We go look at this often- as my brother is a soldier and his name is on it-
My daughter marched with the band- playing yankee doodle, this old flag, and the star spangled banner- She plays the flute- We then sat there together- (My daughter and I) and listened to the speakers- Gettysburg was read- prayers were said- people talked about their family members they have lost in war. It was quite emotional- My brother is a soldier- stationed in Iraq- This year the parade and speechs meant more to me- but were harder to listen to!
We are heading out soon to celebrate Mem. day with my parents- Mom is taking it real tough that her son is in Iraq- But she will get through it-
We planted all of our flowers finally and finished the garden. So far it has been a great day!

It is very relaxing. I'm sitting here watching a lacross game between Duke and John Hopkins Univerisity. I've never watched a lacross game in my life. It's very exciting.
I have the door open looking through the screen door. All of God's creatures are having a great day too.
I wish everyday could be like this.

Hiya Lloyd...Belated happy memorial day. Actually I had a sort of a nice day. Somebody else put together a BBQ for dinner. I still don't have my tomato, cantalope pepper plants in the ground and I was supposed to do that this long weekend. What I did most of the day was put together a Stave puzzle that I bought for resale. I haven't done a jigsaw puzzle since I was a child and the Stave ones are the king of jigsaws. It took me roughly 4-5 hours but I got it! I didn't even cheat and go to the Stave web site. But I recognized the painting about a third through and that helped. (It was Renoirs "Luncheon of the Boating Party") I wanted to be able to say that I completed a Stave puzzle and I also had to take pictures of the completed puzzle for eBay...Mission acomplished and it sold in four hours!

That is just great that you finished the puzzle in 4-5 hours and sold it 4 hours later on eBay.
I have about 8 tomato plants growing. I also have watermelon, cantalope, all kinds of peppers, and some herbs and spices.
It looks like it's going to be a nice crop.
Glad you were able to enjoy some BBQ.
Take care.

Sounds like you had a great day. I'm glad you were able to make the birds happy!
I had to work today so didn't get to go to any barbeques or anything like that. I really would have liked to celebrate Memorial Day outdoors, but, oh well.
I completely agree with your views on honoring the military. I'm uncomfortable with the U.S.'s actions in Iraq, but the troops still need support. They're putting their lives on the line for what they believe in and that entails a ton of sacrifice.
As Americans, we all owe the members of our armed forces, past and present, respect and gratitude for their efforts. Without their actions, we might not have our own holidays to celebrate. We might not have the freedom to celebrate at all.

The birds love the bird bath, especially since I've been adding some ice cubes to it. Sometimes they just stand in it. I guess they like the feel of the cool water on their feets.
Sorry that you weren't able to celebrate Memorial Day, however July 4th is right around the corner, so you'll be able to plan for it.
I think this war in Iraq has been a disaster. I don't think it was well thought out and I wish it could end tonight, but I do think we should support our troops, provide them with the best equipment and the best care when they come home.

Well it is very beautiful outside but we aren't having a cook out today. The other day when we had some extra money I suggested we buy some stuff to have a Memorial Day cook out but my husband said he didn't feel like it this weekend. Ha, now he told his mom on the phone he wished we had the stuff for a cook out. I heard him and told him he should have listened to me the other day. Of course we do need a new grill because our cats have been sleeping in our old one. It was only a cheap one anyway, about $8 for one of those portable ones. It's ok though because I am having fun online making money with my money making programs and posting on here. He is in the other room watching t.v and he has a headache so he will probably be knocked out on the couch soon. So I am just going to enjoy my day talking with friends on Mylot and posting in my blog and doing other things online.
I wish I could see your yard full of birds, lol. That must be a beautiful sight to see. Hmm, I'm trying to think of a name for your squirrel. What are some of the things he does? I usually name an animal by their personality. You know by the way they act. Does he do funny things? Weird things? Maybe things other squirrels don't do? Anyway enjoy your day and Happy Memorial Day! :)

Hubby should have listened to you. lol. July 4th will be here before you know it. I'm sure you will be ready for that. By then you will have your new grill.
My yard is very active today. I'm enjoying it a lot.
The thing that this squirrel does that I've never seen done before is that he climbs up in the tree and squeals loudly when a certain cat stops by.
There's a big black musculer stray cat that roams the neigborhood. No other cat bothers him. He's very arrogant too. I'll hollar at him and he acts like I'm not even there.
So when the squirrel sees him he climbs up the tree and let everyone know that "Big Boy" is around.
You enjoy your day and Happy Memorial Day to you also.

I'm really glad you had a relaxing day. Nothing like a good ole BBQ with friends.
Parades are a staple for Memorial day. We had a few here also, but they started too early for me.
Take care.

Hey Lloyd. It's hot and humid here also. I went to watch my 17 year old nephew play in the championsip game of a travelling league baseball tournament. It went in to extra innings and his team won 1-0. His team's pitchers threw a no hitter. It was very exciting, even though there wasn't alot of action. Good defense and pitching from both teams. We also had a cookout at the game for all teams involved in the tourney.
After that I sat on my deck and watched the birds eat at my birdfeeder and the rabbits tease my dog. I saw a beautiful Cardinal. He lives around my home and visits the feeder quite often. I haven't seen his "wife" yet.
Perhaps you could name the squirrel Luigi, as he likes pizza.
God bless and protect our troops!
PEACE

Wow. You had a day full of activity. I'm glad your nephew's team won the championship. It sounded like a great game even though there wasn't a lot of action.
I love cookouts. Wish we could have one every weekend.
We also have rabbits that visit our yard, but it's usually at night.
I've never seen more than on Cardinal at a time.
Luigi sounds like a great name. This squirrel eats anything. You should see him sunning himself after he fills his stomach. What a site.
The troops are in a tough situation. I wish them the best.

Woke up at 540am. Fed my son and changed his diaper. Played with him.
When the older three woke up we had breakfast. Then we played. And I did a little laundry. Mostly I thought about my hubby. I miss him so much. He is in Riyadh until the end of November. I miss him more than I ever thought possible. I think of him all the time. The kids talk about him all the time.
I made Ravioli for dinner, and we had ice cream after. The kids had fruit punch. My 2 year old is really tired.
My flowers don't look too good. I haven't seen too many birds today.
I live in New Jersey too. It's hot and sticky.

I hope your husband returns safely. Sounds like you have your hands full with the little ones.
I know the kids enjoyed the ice cream for desert.
Enjoy the rest of your day.
