Why would anyone spend hours trying to create a virus to destroy computers ?

Why would anyone who is smart enough to be able to create a virus to ruin computers that belong to people they have never met before , waste their time doing something like this ? I have never been able to figure out why anyone would want to hurt someone they never met and why anyone would spend hours doing something like this when they are obviously very smart to be able to do something like this and could be getting paid for what they know instead of trying to hurt other's . Do you know of anyone who can do this and if so , what reasons do they give for wanting to do anything like this ? If you cabable of doing this would you waste your time doing this ? What can be done to protect ourselves when we are onliine from getting a virus all the time ?

Some people do it because it makes them feel powerful, others send viruses to targeted groups or individuals out of hate, and still others use different kinds of malware to make money off your machine. Using a Trojan to create a backdoor on your machine, mutated with viral capabilities to overwrite your critical system drivers so System Restore can't undo the infection, a remote attacker can track your online activities, steal financial information or identification, or add your machine to a botnet, made of hundreds or even thousands of "zombies" for purposes of sending out spam or attacking servers. Why? Because the higher the volume of traffic one can generate, the more momentum behind a single attack. When a bot master has a network of zombies large enough to generate gigabits of traffic per second, they can overwhelm a server's defense system and break through. Some of these servers can hold great wealths of sensitive information for sale to the highest bidder(s). No, I am not a hacker. I am a tech, who happens to be fanatical when it comes to Internet security. One of the easiest ways to defend yourself is to use a firewall that includes IPS (Intrusion Prevention Systems). Ordinary firewalls are simply designed to block incoming traffic from computers you're not "talking" to; they can't block malicious downloads from a computer you're currently connecting with. IPS can. Three products that do pretty well are Sunbelt Kerio, IBM/ISS BlackICE, and the latest versions of McAfee. There are probably others, but these are the ones I've tested for significant periods of time. Any one of these will greatly increase your security against online exploits. You should still stay up to date with Microsoft patches, and you should never be without antispyware and antivirus. Bare minimum, I recommend antivirus and antispyware with automatic updates, scheduled scanning, and real-time monitoring. A good choice would be CyberDefender, which automatically analyzes activity on your own machine (with the help of a server). If you want a decent all-in-one suite, my recommendation is AOL Safety and Security Center. It offers competent protection all by itself, and is a piece of cake to use. Just in case something on your machine makes it act a little iffy, you might want to use Process Tamer as well. Hope this helps!

hi, i'm sorry with your problem and i have something to share here. a. actually, virus/worm/malware/spyware maker only take couple of hours, in extreme, they can make a virus only in couple of minutes. b. why? to show that they are clever enough to fool us. c. in fact, most computer users treat computer like a type writer machine. in other hand, computer have more and much more ability. virus maker use this gap with creating virus. d. u have to fight this, if not u'll defeated by them. e. install good antivirus software like AVG. its free but strong enough to fight virus f. use mafioso idea, "trus no one". dont open/use any resources that u're not sure uts virus free. g. learn, learn and learn. give 5 minutes of your computing time to learn computer better. the good understanding of your system is the best antivirus ever. h. never give up on what u do now.

Some people are smart but they waste their talents on such craps just to have some fun of their own or for some evil purpose and I think a world can be a better place to live if they would have use their knowledge for something good.

Hello, samtaylorskykierajen, those people who spend long time to create a virus are sometimes smart people, they may have to do it to prove their knowledge to other people, they gain satisfaction by damaging other system, they may not have done something constructive before, but doing this can make them more confident. I do not know anyone who can do this, but those because those people may be computer experts,if they can use their knowledge in a proper way,it will be a benefit to other people. I think the only way we can do is to install proper antivirus software system and not open to any suspected files.

people that create viruses to ruin computers are the ones also that make anti-viruses for these viruses. why? Simple, 'cause people owning computers will be aware of the different viruses that can destroy their computers. we know that non of us wants our computers to be damaged, right? so these people who make viruses for ruining the computer that for me are the ones who are making the anti-viruses, can make money through selling their anti-viruses to software companies. well, this is just my opinion. but i'm not also telling that all virus-makers are the makers of anti-viruses. maybe some of them. i'm sure that many of computer geniuses hate much computer viruses. i'm sure they will make a way to get rid of them.

It depends on why would the virus need to exist in the first place. Some are created by competitors to destroy the computer system of their rival. Logic will tell you that man will go to all ends in order to achieve their means, and if they had to release a virus that destroys a few hundred computer system if it means their competitor will be out and down for the next month, why not? Sometimes, the antivirus companies themselves help in creating a virus. It could be their own technicians that challenge themself to create the virus and then discover the "cure", or it could be the company's software glitch. Some softwares comes with glitches due to the fact it is so new it hasn't been fully tested upon. Due to prolonged usage, when mixed with virus, spyware and malware, it just changes into another form of computer malware. For possible solutions, scan your computer with an anti-virus and anti-spyware software once a month and keep your firewall up. Most of all, update the virus database of your anti-virus software.

We think alike on this one. I don't understand why anyone would want to put others through the distress of dealing with a computer virus. The individuals who do things like this show that they have a complete lack of respect for the personal property of others. They want to ruin the technology that some of us work hard to pay for. I really don't understand that mindset, though I have met people who, based on their attitudes and interactions with others, would probably write and send computer viruses. They are cruel and tend to be plain mean to others. I don't think they appreciate other people and they get a kind of "high" for causing others pain and grief. I don't understand the mental workings for that type of person --and I don't really want to. I just wish that science/medicine could figure out how to "cure" these people.

As an abstract idea...creating something that someone else can't create would be seductive. But I think you have to be malicious to create viruses that will cause harm or aggravation to others.

I have ask myself and others this question many times. It just dont make sense to me why anyone would do such a thing. The only thing that I can think of is that they have a strong desire to hurt people and this is a way to do that while huting many at the same time. We do keep our virus scanner up todate at all times.

Yes, I also don't understand them. They should create a useful program instead of making viruses. There are many crazy people in this world.

Because they want to make more money that's it! They also want to gain more information because inside information is money. They are tools of hackers too.

One reason is that they do it to earn some money. Some of the creators of these viruses are also the onewho creates the antivirus for that specific virus. some do it just for fun and sometimes to be known.

They are creating the virus is to show that the programmer have the power to change the system in ypur computer. They feel so satisfied and even more if your computer is infected. They do not get benefit from doing that but it feel more fun after they learn, create and ou got the benefits of their "hardwork".I also want to create a virus but I only know how to create a simple virus. To protect you from the virus is to keep updated your antivirus software, put a firewall and more importantly you need "hijackthis".

Boredom, hobbies, or maybe they are testing their program to see if it works. Once they know it works, they make bigger ones that lead up to money. People may buy their products. Viruses do more than destroy though. There are some that steal personal info like bank account info and passwords. Be wary and get a good anti virus program.

There are too many reasons about that, but I would like to point out one major reason for that. That is when your computer is infected with a virus, what will you do? For sure you will try to get some of the anti-virsus software to help remove it. Thus there comes the fortune for the one who creates the virsus. This way, he or she is doing a very good business with lots of money going to his account. Just think about how many people use computers daily, you can guess the big amount of money he can make. Isn't it a good business for them? This should be one of their main purposes in doing the evil things.

Thats a human tendency everyone have a dark side out there and by the rule 'destruction is way to new world'. People just find way to ruin others life to get there self a piece of happiness.
