Why do i get no responses?

I have been an active member on mylot for about one and a half months and in that time i would like to think i have contributed to the community with helpful and informative responses and posts. However, for some reason when i create a discussion it does well to get over three responses even though my discussions are not as basic as asking what your favourite colour is. I dont understand this, if im supposed to be doing something in order to get more responses or in order to appeal for more people to give their time to answer my questions in the discussions i create then please tell me.

I think it really just depends on the topic and how many people are interested in it.
Also when you post the topic, there may not be so many members online and then your topic gets lost among the thousands of others posted every day.

I was thinking that location could be a factor because people will either be in bed or just getting up in the morning depending on where they are in the world. Saying this though nearly two thirds of the mylot population are either from India or USA.

Yes the location would be a factor. I am in Ireland so on a different time to the USA etc. When its morning here. its night time there. lol

hello darkness
the main reason that you dont get responses could be that you have less friends. usually if no one answers your discussions , one of your friend drops in to say something. no need to feel too depressed about it. i mean the highest i have reached is 10 , other discussions which i started got 5-6 responses and some even 2 responses
but i dont give up. i respond to others and if something comes up in my mind i initiate my own discussion. keep writing , the more you get popular, and the more people start knowing you , the more responses you will get.
good luck!

I dont really understand why having more friends on mylot is important though. If i see a discussion under my interests that interests me then i will reply regardless of whether the creator of the discussion is on my friends list or not. Thankyou for your response Windrunner, appreciated.

Well darkness01 i have browsed through you discussions and like you i am not sure why you don't get many responses, your topics are varied and interesting so there is really no reason why you don't get many responses.well one good thing is you don't have to spend heaps of your time responding to your responses, every cloud has a silver lining they say.I honestly think that it is just the fact that therare so many members and so many topics people just seem to reply to one or two of the first discussions on the first page, not all members are like yourself and look in interests or friends they are just here to earn as much as they can a quick as they can.you will become known on here for being more interested and interesting hence become popular and known then you will have your regulars(friends). The i dont care I'm here to earn a buck members don't really matter just keep posting and as time goes you will get the respect you deserve and the responses you deserve just be patient. Good luck

Some very good advice there thankyou. Although, i do like to respond to the responses on my discussions because people have taken the time to respond to my discussion so i like to show my appreciation for their time and thoughts, thankyou.

I am sure it will get better, why not let your friends on here know when you have made a new post and see if they will respond for you. I thnk you can do the same for them. Why not get some more friends on here as I thnk that helps as well.
I am from the Uk as well so maybe as has been mentioned the time you make a post could make a difference. Try posting in differend Interests to see if that helps.
I wish I had had somthing like this to belong to when I was 19 but computers then where still the size of a house!

I have lots of friends on mylot, although im not entirely sure what the point of having them is as i always respond to discussions from my interests first as this is where i can give advice the best. As to posting in different discussions, i could do this but i only want to create a discussion in something i have a real and genuine interest in because i get more satisfaction from hearing peoples views on the subject. I appreciate your time Beaniegdi.

It all depends on how many people are interested in your topic and how many people actually see it. Don't feel bad though. Most of my topics don't get more than a few responses even though I post quality material. I don't think you earn more by having tons of people respond to your posts anyway.

Im not talking about it from a financial point of view, because mylot is not a big earner anyway. Im just interested in peoples opinions to my discussions and questions. I thankyou for this response Kythe42.

As a new user myself, and with a busy outside schedule, I rely a lot on the e-mail messages coming in from myLot telling me this friend or that friend has started a new discussion. I have turned "on" the notifier for all the friends that I have made so far. Sometimes I have time to respond, some times I don't, but at least this tool helps keep me updated. I respond to certain topics because I feel I have something to contribute not necessarily just because it was created by a certain "friend."

I agree with you. If i have some useful information or i have the understanding and knowledge to help out someone with a topic i will definetely do so, im not a fan of responding to any discussion i see with a poor response just to increase my post count. Thank you Mizrae for your response.

I had the same question too and what i did? i changed my avatar, i added more and more friends and somehow i got lucky with the topic i have chosen, not too difficult but not that basic...just something that anybody is familiar with and can have interest with...my topic even made it to top discussions and it was the first time that it ever happened and i couldn't be more happier, i hope this topic of yours get more responses...this is a simple one right?

I try to be as active when I can, if time permits, and I respond to discussions that catch my interest. I have posted several discussions as well with zero responses, but I haven't let that influence my activity on myLot. I actually do miss myLot when I cannot be on, but chores do need to get done, food cooked, home cleaned, bathrooms scrubbed---you get the point. I usually post discussions in myLot that are directly from my experience. I must admit I feel a little bit hurt when something I post does not get a response, but I guess that's just how it is. People respond if it is a topic that interests them, otherwise they go post somewhere else. Don't let it get to you. :-}

I think it just depends on the interest of the viewer. Also what I try to do is put a catchy title to my discussion that will catch a persons eye. Most of the time I don't hit the mark but sometimes I have gotten more than two or three responses. I don't think there is any special recipe for getting a lot of responses. It just depends on the members themselves. So all you can do is the best that you can and just keep coming here.

i got one piece of advice before by a concerned mylotter on how to get more responses to your posted topic. ask a trivial question as he said and expect the unexpected. personally, that's what i noticed here. simple questions like 'which you want TV or computer?','what time you get sleep?', 'do you have the habit of smelling your underwear?' and many more receive higher number of responses. Thought-provoking questions or topics are being ignored by many. having a long list of friends is not an assurance that your topics would be replied by all of them, though it could be a factor.
so far, the highest number of responses i had is when i posted a simple topic about the email i received from mylot admin explaining why there was the sudden drop of earnings. you know what i mean now?

Some very good points there and i will take them on board. I alwys try however to create topics of real interest and debate as i dont find simple discussions ver appealing but if these are the type of questions and discussions that spark debate and more responses then i would have to think about doing this at some point even though i dont like to. thanks for your response.

You shouldn't beat up on yourself, darkness. Hey, sometimes my posts only get a few responses too. Have you searched the news for topics that might generate interest? Maybe something from childhood memories would make a good topic. I suggest that you look through some of the topics that get lots of response and study what makes them popular. I'm crossing my fingers for you.

You should continue to create discussions if you want to discuss something. If i received zero replies for the next month i would still create one if i had something to share, dont get discouraged.

it happens mate !!
i too have posted several discussions in the past month or 2, but have not received any response to more than half of them....cant blame it on myself, but maybe the discussion may not be of the interest of the members who scan it or it could be that they have alrady replied to a similar discussion and maty feel it to be repetitive........dont wory mate.
add me as a fiend and ill regularly reply to ur discussions posted.
cheers

Mostly this happens because people are busy creating their own discusions, and especially overlooking most of the new ones. Fortunately that is not the case with your current discussion.
It is appreciable of you to be so active a member and lending your valuable responses. Keep doing that!! :)
