Do you take the stairs or the elevator?

I take the stairs every chance I get. I will take the stairs before I would the elevator. For one, I don't get too much exercise. So I rather take the stairs for this reason to get in additional steps in a day. Plus for another, I don't like closed quarters. And generally, I can get to where I am going taking the stairs a lot quicker than taking the elevator. Granted I am talking 5 flights or less. Then I may be tempted to take the elevator. So do you take the stairs or the elevator.

Thank you for your response. I work on the 2nd floor of an office building, so I take the stairs everyday, and I have to agree with you if less than 6 floors, quicker to take the stairs.

By right we should all take the stairs. Quite a few of us (me, the telly tubby included) don't get the excercise that we should and tend to get a few tubby related ailments. I'm currently down with a weak back and have just been diagnosed with hypertension. Still, the idea of going to the gym is something I have no problem putting off - I am in short the prime candidate for someone who should be forced to take the stairs.
However, I live in a place that is 22 stories high. Most buildings in Singapore are that high and taking the lift is something we do out of necessity after a rough day in the office.

I tend to take the elevator/escalator at every oppportunity I get. In school however that becomes an issue so its always a tough walk at 8:30 in the morning up two flights of stairs to get to a class on time. Id love it if the elevators weren't only for those with special needs.

so are you in high school or college? My high school was only one floor so I didn't have to worry with this.

I am in high school at the moment. The worst part is the school has three levels. We're quite big having upwards to 3000 students.

I work on the 2nd floor and I take the stairs. If it were the 3rd, I probably would only some of the time. Higher than that, probably not!

Thanks for responding, I work on the 2nd floor and sometimes the 3rd floor and I generally take the stairs, any higher than that I would probably take the elevator too!

I suppose that is a very good reason to take the stairs since you dont know how to operate the elevator.

I don't have a fear of elevators but I do tend to get clostophopic and tend to steer away from them as much as possible.

Stairs. Totally. I hate elevators. I'm always afraid that it can stop and the doors don't open. I hate elevators. I just take them when I'm in hospital, to go on the 6, 7th floor. I take it just if it's indispensable

When I'm out I take the stairs most of the time unless I've already been walking all day. In my house I always take the satirs :) I live in a two story and elevators are two expensive to put in. If I could afford it I still wouldn't get one. Its only about 16 steps. The day I can't climb 16 steps I'm laziest person I know or I'm very very very sick.

I take the stairs for the obvious reason, I need the exercise. I will take an elevator when my legs are too tired, and it is a long flight up to the top. I am not that fast, so usually the elevator will beat me to it, but when you find it hard to lose weight by just walking, you will need all the help you can.

Stairs are good exercise and that is the only type I get right now.
There are three floors in the building I work. It is so slow, that I generally beat anyone that takes the elevator.

I usually take the stairs, but like you stated us more flights than I can handle I prefer the elevator.
It also depends if my hands are full, or if I have guests with me that prefer to ride the elevator.
I work in a building that has only two floors, and I see it everyday about 70% of the people working in that place ride the elevator, it's pathetic. It takes more time for the elevator to open its doors in to reach second floor than it does to just climb the stairs.
I understand it's certain handicaps prohibit you from climbing stairs, but perfectly healthy people I don't.

I happen to be one who is among the true. Diet control, exercise, whatever, no way I can overthrow the above statement. However, there is a special breed who find it hard to gain weight and easy to lose. I happen to know of one such person who has such high metabolic rates.

Yes, there are a rare few that have this problem. I still like taking the stairs over the elevator.

if its more than 5 floors, i use the elevator but below 5 floor i use the stairs. especially in the morning, i always take the stairs coz its also another form of exercise for me, like doing the threadmill. but if i am in a hurry going up, i just use the elevator. but going up i use also the stairs.

Thank you for your response. I have to agree with you more than 5 or 6 flights I would tend to take the elevator.

Hi Terri!
I wish that I could take the stairs because it would help me lose some weight that I need to very badly. But I have a health problem that gives me a lot of problems with my legs and I just climb stairs so I have to take elevators or escalators. I have two steps going up the porch at my home and sometimes I can barely get up those as bad as I hate to say it. I have a treadmill here in my office but when I get on it to walk I can only hold out for about five minutes at the longest and then I have to stop.

I made a typo here, where I typed I just climb stairs I meant to say I can't climb stairs, sorry about that! :)

Sheila Thank you for responding. I understand when people with certain conditons prevent them from climbing stairs. Though I think it is easier to take stairs down than up, with people who have difficulty with stairs.

I am never in an area that has stares or an elevator, except my house. It has two stories, and only stairs. So I would suppose it would be right of me to say I take the stairs every day, at least 10 or more times a day. Its a very common thing here in my household, and if I was in an area that had both i'd take the stairs.

My apartment is in 15th floor and my office is in 10th floor. That means to say it's better for me to take advantage of the elevator. I ever thought about walking the stairs, as I like to do more exercises. However, I am still lazy and therefore finally I give it up.

I guess if I had to go to those levels of floors I too would take the elevator. Maybe you could switch it up some and take the stairs part of the way up or down and take the elevator the rest of the way!

Definitely the elevator!!! I am very lazy and i dont have enough courage to take the stairs... but if i have to go to the 2nd or 3rd floor i wont wait for an elevator (well i am not that lazy)
But disadvantage of an elevator; when there is someone in there who smells perspiration!!! oh i really cant stand that... well we need everything to make a world

Thank you for your response, and I have to agree with you that would be bad to be in an elevator that has a bad odor about them.
