My husband is only 26 years old and we found out he had high blood pressure about two years ago. His symptoms were very obvious. He had what appeared to be a rash on his legs that would not go away. I thought that it was a fungus from his socks. When we went to the doctor we found out that it was broken capillaries because of high blood pressure. He also had a very bad temper until we got his blood pressure under control. His personality is like a completely different person since he started his medication.

It definitely raises your chance for heart attack. As for symptoms the main one I know of is being light headed or dizzy more then usual and in my husbands case he lost conciousness before we knew he even had it.

lost consciousness? OMG!
and, of course, I just have to ask, because I am borderline. I keep trying to fight it though with diet and exercise, which both seem to control it pretty well. I only get slightly high numbers when I have been totally stressed out.

Sadly blood pressure is often called the silent killer because most people don't notice the symptoms or there are none. I started being dizzy all the time . I would have to lie in bed for an hour or so before I felt better again. Some times I would feel like throwing up. I went to the doctor and had things checked out including my ears. My the second appointment my doctor had determined that my blood pressure was high. I am on medication now , but sometimes if I am told something that really really upsets me , my blood pressure will shoot up and I will feel dizzy .

It certainly seems that blood pressure can do many weird things to the body, for sure! I remember my father who also had high blood pressure used to elevate his feet while taking a nap. he usually did this in a lazy boy chair, practically everyday.

I believe the highest reading I have had so far that I actually measured was 220 / 146. I discovered my blood pressure problem when I had a couple of mini strokes. Until then I had no real idea that there was a problem.
When my blood pressure is high I get severe headaches. My feet and hands swell. I sometimes experience double vision. I also have had bouts of dizziness and a total lack of energy.
Oddly enough, I also experience low blood pressure from time to time and dizziness, double vision, and lack of energy also occur then.

It has been mentioned that at times there can be no symptoms. To be sure you have to have your blood pressure monitored. There should be a consistent high blood pressure reading over time (several days or weeks) before they can you have it.

The main symptom I have experienced (as did my brother) were major painful headaches across the back of my head and into my neck.
Monitoring is very important as others have said, because there isn't always a physical sign.
I am working on cutting way back on my salt intake, as well as cafeine, which seem to be my main triggers.
