My marriage was an arranged one and a complete family affair. And even before my marriage I did not propose to anyone. Have you proposed to anyone?

No I have not proposed to anyone. My husband proposed to me. ranjeetkolarkar, if you don't mind me asking "how is your marriage being it was an arranged one"? I have always wondered that. I worked at a place and another couple was from somewhere other than the United States and their marriage was an arranged one and they didn't act like they got along to well. Since it is arranged, if you don't get along with the person, does your family/country believe in divorce? Sorry for all the questions, I was just curious.

to answer you first question....i have got married 2 years back and have a cute little daughter, 9 months old. And my wife and I get along very well and we are a happy couple. You are right, there can be troubled arranged marriages where the couple does not get along well. But then, there are love marriages which too are troubled. I stay in india and am an indian. Divorces in our countries are rare cases. As far as my knowledge goes, almost 95 percent of the marriages are arranged marriages. The issue with arranged marriages is that the couple has a moral and social support from their families. And in case there is some dispute between the couples, their families come in to solve the dispute. Love marriages, although increased, still face opposition from the parents of the couple. And hence if the couple in a love marriage develop trouble among themselves, they do not have the moral and social support from their families. Hence in india most of the cases of divorce are among the love marriages. Although there might be cases wherein the case might be otherwise as mentioned by me.

I also have not proposed to anyone. I agree with Udderones about being curious about arranged marriages. I am glad yours works out and you have a daughter. Be happy. It is always interesting to learn things from other cultures.

I proposed to my husband, we were married for almost 27 yrs. sadly he passed away last year. I bought him a diamond ring for Christmas one year, he said that was his engagement ring. I have heard about arranged marriages, they can be very sucessful.

No I haven't but I have been proposed to twice! Arranged marriages can work out much better than the ones where you pick your spouse yourself I have been told - hope this is true for you! xxx

No not yet. I have to be careful to take any sensitive decision like proposing a mariage to anyone. The smoothness of a mans life is also depended on his life partner, if the wife is co-operating well then the marriage will bring out the best and it goes for the opposite when the wife is not co-operative.

I am a teen ager and have fans. Lolz but i neither made any bf nor proposed to anyone. I think that its better to do an arrange marriage bcuz in thos case, usually, home mebers support but if you do love marriage, no one likes & co-operate with you. You have to solve every problem yourself.

After seeing all the failed marriages and relationships here in the U.S., I have slowly lost faith in the institution of marriage, and relationships! After going through what I went through, and helping my family, friends, and others in their failed marriages, I am glad that I am past that stage of my life! And I am sorry that I posted such a depressing post, but I just had to get it off my chest!

A couple of times. Once with my so far one true love, but the timing was wrong and she said no. Another time when I got a yes and the marriage lasted a few years; I wish now I had never proposed to her.

Yes I did propose one person in my life and I'm happy about that she is with me now, but propose some one you need lots of guts otherwise that four letter magical word will never come out of your mouth. The same thing happened with me also cause I proposed my girl only after 8 try's believe it or not every time I would try to make up my mind walk towards her I would start to stammer and eventually end up speaking about notes and studies she was good friend though, this went on and on till on day when i was in my tenth std I finally made up my mind and my friend and me started to walk toward her and every one from my batch knew about my love so 90% of them were praying for her to say yes and the rest 10% were all guys who were praying that her response should be 'No' to my proposal cause she was the sweetest among the lot, but as the distance between us started to fade out my heart beat was increasing as I moved closer to her and when I expressed to her my feelings about her she started to cry out smiling and asked why I took so long. If that day i wouldn't have said it I would have missed some one in my life who makes my day.

Well, as long as you are happy with it that is all that counts. I was proposed to and it was really beautiful. I just never thought he was the one that I was going to end up with. But, life is twisted that way sometimes.

Nope- I have never proposed to anyone- I'm a girl though- I have been proposed to once- I turned the man down- Our relationship was ending and he only proposed to keep me there- It wasn't what I wanted- How is your marriage? I have heard of arranged weddings- but they are not common here in the US.

I have not proposed to anyone. I am married and I have been proposed TO, but I have never asked anyone to marry me. Now that I am married, I probably never will.

In the US there are few arranged marriages. It is also the custom for males to do the proposing, so not many women do it. I think that custom is changing, however. With a 45 to 50% divorce rate in this country, I would say that love matches do not work very well! I have always thought that carefully arranged marriages are probably a better way to do it. As you say, the couple has the family support and backup if and when problems do occur. I have also read and heard that most couples in arranged marriages do come to love each other. I hope this is true in your case.
