How do you wash yours?

For the ladies. I'm curious to know how you wash your bras. I know that they are supposed to be hand washed. I've just never done that. I've always tossed them in the washing machine. It's never been a problem until recently though. We've always used a top loading washing machine. We for the past few months have had a front loading washing machine. I find it is breaking or bending the hooks off the back. So I will have to start hand washing them now. I spend too much on my bras to let them get trashed from the washing machine. Any one else who machine washes theirs in a front loader experience this?

I've always just thrown my right in with the rest of the laundry. The laundry multiplies too quickly around here - we're a family of five - to worry about handwashing things like that. I'll handwash tough stains, but that's all . . . that's all I have the time for! LOL

I've just always thrown mine in as well. Until I recently noticed missing hooks and bent ones. Which is just a pain. I spend almost $40/bra. One of them was rather new. Thankfully the store I get them at will replace it. But still.

I must be VERY lucky because I've never had a hook bend or anything like that - I've been throwing them into loads ever since I started wearing them when I was twelve ::coughs:: twenty years ago. LOL

hehe I've never had the problem either. Not until the past like two months. We moved back to my boyfriends home area. We live in a place where we are able to have a washer and dryer finally. So we had to go out and buy a set. We decided to get a front load washing machine as they are more energy efficient. Last week is when I started noticing the bent/broken hooks. =(

I think they might have something that you can put your bras in, like they do stalkings when you wash them. I have a top loader washer and just toss my bra in with the rest of my clothes. But when it comes to drying I usually let them air dry because the dryers tend to be the one that break clasps or cause the metal underwire to come out. So unless I can help it I just let mine air dry. Hopefully you find a solution because handwashing bras would suck major because it's a lot of time and effort to just turn around and do it again right after you wear it pretty much.

Yeah I'm going to go get a lingerie bag and try that. Hopefully it works out well for me. I've never had the dryer make the wires come out. It's always been in the washing machine. Then again, it could have started from the dryer the time before. But it's definitely a pain. I just do not feel like they come clean enough from handwashing. Maybe it's just me but I kind of don't like it.

I put mine in the washing machine unless they are particularly expensive. Perhaps you should put them inside a pillow case to stop them getting bent hooks in the machine.

Mine are almost $40/bra. That is a great idea though. Why didn't I think of that? haha Thanks for the suggestion!

Have you ever heard of a lingere bag? It's a little mesh bag that you can put your bras in before you put them in the washing machine. It helps prevent the hooks from snagging your other clothes or parts of the machine. They also keep the bras from moving around too much and they get a more delicate wash that way. I picked up one of these at my local Bed, Bath, and Beyond store after the underwires came out of a lot of my bras. I needed to find a way to still be able to wash my clothes in the machine because I just didn't have the time or energy to handwash them all.

I have heard of them. I think it is probably time I pick one up. I never had this problem until we got this washing machine and it's a front loader. But it would be nice to not have to hand wash them. Thanks for the OBVIOUS suggestion. I do not mean that in a rude way either. I really shouled have thought of that one myself. haha

i don't hand wash my bras at all, let the washing machine do their work ^_^ ..but mine is a top loading washing machine though. don't have any problems with my bras ..it's funny how your front loading washing machine gives you that kind of problem with your bras. i wouldn't think that there would be any difference washing bras (or any clothes for that matter) in a top loading or a front loading washing machine..

Yeah it's odd. Never had problems in a top loading machine. I'm going to try the lingerie/garmet bag thing and see how that works out. I washed about 5-6 of them by hand but I don't feel like they are clean enough. So we will have to see.

I wash mine in the washing machine on the gentle cycle with Woolite or some generic brand of Woolite. Im sure its not the best method of washing bras, but at least I feel they are getting clean. I never feel like things are clean when I was by hand.

I completely agree with you. I do not feel like the bras I hand washed the other day are clean. I do have a gentle cycle but I feel like it will still happen. And when you're paying almost $40/bra I don't want to damage all of them. I'm going to try the lingerie/garment bag on the gentle cycle and see how that goes.
