Do you always make a grocery shopping list?

I really don't like going to the grocery store so I want to get in and get out as fast as possible. If I'm only going to pick up a few necessities I don't make a list but if I need a lot of things I always make a list so I can go directly to what I need and get out of there. About twice a year I'll take my time and go down every aisle just to see if there is anything new added to the shelves that I might want to try.

Because I like to cook, there is always some sort of list or "palette" in my head, I use it to create recipes and for shopping purposes... it even is hard at work when I'm sleeping... That's one of the hazards of being a contest cook... I've got an entire supermarket in my head! LOL! Thanks, Crafty... A recipe calculator for you: http://www.cookingbynumbers.com

I wish I had that talent. I'm a good cook but I can never remember everything that goes in it. I always forget something important if I don't write it down. With gas prices so high I don't want to make 2 trips. Thanks so much for the recipe calculator!

i always bring a grocery list, so i don't have to go back in case i forget something and don't buy on impulse. but i do love comparing prices and looking for good deals.

If it's fruits or vegies I'll compare prices but if it's a box mix I pass it by.. otherwise I have to spend more money on the stuff to go with it. I'm on a budget so that won't work.. LOL

If it was down to me to solely go out and do the shopping then no I wouldn't take a list beforehand, because I prefer to browse and if there are any special offers or I see something I fancy I will buy it, my housemate goes with me as I have the car and he's the cook in the household so he always does a list, he also says it avoids unnecessary spending LOL

Your housemate is right! It does help avoid unnecessary spending. Smart man!

I do because I like to get in and get out. My wife doesn't make one and it takes her longer but she doesn't seem to mind. My daughter likes to make a list also but she does pick up stuff that is not on the list sometimes.

Would you mind talking to my wife? No, I'm just kidding I don't mind if my wife wants to spend more time in the grocery store. She does do a good job at doing the shopping!

That's one more reason I make a list, it keeps me from buying impulsively. When I stay in the store too long I start making excuses and rationalizing as to why I need that bag of chocolate chip cookies or ice cream. The faster I get out of their the less temptation. LOL :)

I sometimes will take a list with me. But I have to browse the entire store....lol Even if I am only going in for milk or bread, I still end up wandering around the entire store. I don't have to buy things, I just have to see what there is...lol I do a lot of surveys and try new products before they are offered to the public...so many times I am looking to see if the item has come out yet...hehe

That's cool! I think I'd probably spend the extra time seeing if the new products are out yet too. Thanks :D

I do not mind going to the grocery store, and the only time I make a list is 1) if I am trying a new recipe and i might forget what ingredients are needed or 2) if I am sending someone else to do some lite shopping for me. I have shopped and cooked for my family so long that I know just by looking in my pantry and fridge what is needed. There are staples that have not changed in years. The things I tend to forget are things that I do not buy regularly or things that we do not run out of often, like salt, q tips, that sort of thing at that point I might jot them down and put a list in my wallet.

I always remember the little stuff and tend to forget only the important things. Things you absolutely have to make another trip for! LOL Thanks :D

I always make a shopping list but just use it as a guide. The real list is in my brain and usually I see things as I am shopping that I forgot we needed. Some people have a hard time not impule buying when they shop this way, but for me it is the best method.

I always make a list. If I don't , I will forget what I need. When I had a favorite store, i would put the list in the order of the store so I could go down each aisle and get what I need. When my favorite store opened it had the aisles in a great order. And they gave out store directories.I would make my list and then put it in the order of the store. But a few years ago , they changed the floor plan and I stopped going. So now it takes me a little longer to shop.

I have bad luck with lists. I'm more likely to forget to put something on a list and forget what I need than I am to have it be useful for me. I'm best off just winging it. I know this is a bit off topic, but every time I've made a checklist for packing my stuff for trips I've been too confident with my list and left something I needed. Same with groceries.

When it is just me shopping I do make a list. I make a menu of what I'm going to cook then build a list off of what I'll need to make everything. It so much easier for me and I don't buy as much junk, thus saving money. When the man of the house does the shopping, however, he just buys what ever looks good and is infront of him. Very agrivating!

I love going to the grocery store. I love shopping. I only hate when there is a lot of people down an isle your trying to get down. Yes, I always make a grocery shopping list. I get whats on the list and things that are not on it. I'm trying to learn to stick to the list.

I never used to make a list because if I did I would forget to take it with me anyway! If there are only a few things I need, I'll make a list, or if I only have a really limited amount of cash to get necessities because that way I can stick to the list and not forget anything and have to go back again. I hate grocery shopping, which is why I do my main shopping online. So now I make a list on the shops website and then find everything, which is much easier than actually going to the shops and forgetting the toilet roll, which is what I tend to do. I could have 3 or 4 things to get and I would forget the most important thing! I now try to do my lists so that the most important things are at the top and anything we could do without is at the bottom. That way, if the first lot of stuff adds up to too much, it won't matter if we don't get the stuff further down the list.

though i do not do it myself, i ask my wife to have a list of the items that we need to buy the next time we go to grocery shop. It helps in two ways 1. You do not forget to buy a item which you feel you should have bought. 2. We try to stick to the list as far as possible so that we do not resort to impulse shopping. This keeps the grocery expenses at bay as we do not buy any thing that is not needed.

I don't make a grocery list. There is only my husband and I now so I don't have to pick up a lot when I go to the store. I think it is nice to walk down the isles and see the different things they have put on the shelfs. Of course, I don't work now and I had one child and he is married and out of the house. That may make the difference. I think back and when I was younger I still did not make a list. So I guess that is just me.

I dont mind going shopping. I like looking whats around, but i get annoyed when there is heaps of people in there and you have to wait for ages at the checkout. I usually take a list, but i rarely stick to it. Best wishes to you

I always make a grocery list. I keep a running list on my computer and when I run out of something or think of something new to add, I put it on my list. I also have a master list which I can refer to to jiggle my brain lol
