Television - it's the window to the world. Seeing is believing ... to that effect TV is much better than newspapers . Some people believe that watchiong TV is a sheer waste of time. But watching TV programs which are informative and absorbing is worth it . Channels like DISCOVERY, HISTORY,NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC etc can be of highly educational value . At times, watching an old movie every now and then is perfectly alright, for life is to live and enjoy within the limits .

we should always be careful in choosing what we wanna see. there are shows on tv which are obviously just a waste of time and full of nonesense. but there are shows which are a good past time, too.

Yes television can be informative and entertaining provided we don't become a couch potato. One should have fixed timings for viewing it as otherwise one's work gets affected. I feel news and current affairs programs are informative and keeps us upto date with what's happening around the world and help form our opinions on the same. Then watching comedy shows can help pep our spirits so that we can have a hearty laugh. Yeah sometimes watching old movies or informative channels can entertain us and be informative too.

It depends on the information that one CHOOSES to see. We cannot do away with the television. Otherwise, I can imagine gross differences in people located in different nations. The televion hels in enculturation and in levelling off of the people who watches television programs. It gives people at least some basic information that are supposed to be known by an individual living in a particular place in time. Again, it depends on the person who CHOOSE. You can CHOOSE to waste your time, or CHOOSE not too. But television is definitely not a waste of time.

It all depends on the viewer. If we are watching daily soaps or opera or some cheap shows then its a waste of time. But channels like Discovery, Animal Planet, National Geographic, History etc., are really good and what we get from watching them is worth of it. So that is not a waste.

If someone enjoys it then I don't think its a waste of time. I like the History Channel too. I often watch the news to see what's going on. I have a few that I enjoy that aren't informative. They are just fun to watch.

I like watching some TV. Friends and co-workers always ask me why I don't watch the reality shows and such. I find them boring. I love the Discovery Channels, I love to watch medical shows and I love the Court TV channel. I watch the news daily in the morning to see what is going on, newspapers I view online. Give me an old black and white movie to watch, Bonanza is great too. Other than most of what I have mentioned, that's about it for me and the TV. I also go for days at a time where I turn the TV on for the news before I leave for work, and then I don't turn it on in the evenings. Before I forget, at times in the evenings when I do watch TV, I also love Law and Order...all of them! Nice discussion...take care...

Watching the right channel on TV can be educational and the effects are much better than reading a book or newspaper. The videos from TV shows are much better in educating people about things that they do not know compared to the still graphics in books or newspaper. It gets even better if you get to watch a live broadcast of an event where due to distances and cost, it would be impossible for us to be present at the actual sites.

i am a person who will readily admit that i watch too much TV. apart from the news and informative shows, there really is nothing better on it for us to see.i'm an avid fan of sitcoms, though, because they make us laugh, and laughing is never a waste of time. :)

I thoroughly enjoy the time I spend watching TV but I am selective. I do not sit like a zombie and watch all it my waking hours.

You are right !! There is nothing wrong with one watching t.v as there are many educational programs one can watch and you can watch the news or stay up on current events because of t.v . Not everything one would watch would be educational but there is no reason one shouldn't be able to sit down and watch a show just for something to do . I believe t.v opens our eyes to new possibilities and new opportunities that we may never have thought about before and at the same times keeps us enteretained after a long day at work or just a time to sit down and relax or even spend time together as a family watching a comedy or a movie .

Despite all of the bad press it gets, sukumar, you can usually find something worthwhile to watch if you really try. I watch a lot of public tv since I don't have cable. They have many good, quality programs most of the time. There are also a few series that I am quite hooked on. Tv doesn't always have to be about learning something. Sometimes it's good to enjoy something simply for the sake of pleasure.

For me, wathcing television is a waste of time especially if you are watching senseless tele-novelas and soap operas. But I don't include watching the news as a waste of time, because one needs to be updated of current events. The rest will only waste your time.
