I was so excited! Just for the fun of it a few weeks ago I decided to enter a photo contest on picture.com. I had taken a picture of some roses from my Don Juan rose bush and thought, what the heck, I'm just going to give it a shot. Well today in the mail I got notification that they are going to publish my picture in a book!!! I thought, Woweeee!!! They tell you there is no obligation to purchase anything but, of course, they want me to buy the book that it is going to be listed in. I'll have to admit I'm seriously thinking about it, although it is a little steep. It is just the fact that I have never had anything like this to happen so I'm naturally excited. They also said I will be entered automatically into some drawings for prizes!Okay, give me your honest opinions, if it were you would you buy the book or just let it go? I appreciate any and all responses.
Thanks!!SheliaLee

Sorry to say this but I am not sure that I trust them. I too won for a picture I submitted. I was constantly getting mail, regular and emails, wanting me to order that book. Then it was an awards show they wanted me to attend to get my award, but that cost alot of money too. I didn't do it but it might be a good idea to check with the Better Business Bureau.

Your welcome and I am sorry. I remember how excited I was when I won and then the disappointment when they kept wanting money. But I think your picture is beautiful and a winner anyway.

I won the picture contest as well. I think everybody does. They end up sending you mail and pestering you to buy the book. I did the poem thing as well. I don't really trust them either. I just signed up with the pictures and poems on cashcrate to make my $1.

That sounds like a smart idea. I am a member of some websites where you can enter the contest and earn money and I might do that the next time I decide to enter a picture.

Hi Swtrose!
I just now read your article. I have most definitely decided not to buy the book and your article nails the coffin shut completely. I appreciate you sending me this information. :)

Congratulations, the pic is good:-) But...be carefull. I saw some discussions about this site /and his sister poetry.com/ and some people say that they are cheaters. And they sell the pictures to other sites without the real authors of theese pics to get any money. So...just be carefull.

awww i am sorry to have to tell you that but picture.com is sort of a scam - along with poetry.com - you can send any kind of picture good or bad, they will tell you your picture is great and merits to be published, no matter how good your picture is you will never win any prize
Their only goal is to sell you books or later they will send you an invitation to the Grand Prize distribution, because of course your piture has been selected among the best ( which is a lie because everybody get the same mail), and they will offer you a "special offer" on accomodations near the venue
So you can buy the book just for the pride of being in it but this company is just trying to sell people stuff under cover of a photo contest
SORRY
If you want to sell your pitures, try some reknown companies such a dreamstime, shutterstock, fotolia, bigstock photo ...

Oh thank you so much!! Are these companies ones that do actually buy your pictures and publish them if they think they are good?

no those are ctually online companies
you upload your digital pictures to their site - it's free - and then if your pictures are selected and someone wants to buy it then you get paid
I am with dreamstime, they have accepted some pictures abut I haven't sold any yet I must say

I must admit that I would probably buy the book. It would simply make me want to actually "see" my photo in print. That way I would also be able to show it to family and friends. Congratulations on your photo being published. I would be just as excited as you are.

Well I think I would let it go but then it depends on the Price of the Book I guess
Now you are sure this is genuine aren't you SheliaLee, as that sort of thing always concerns me
If it is a Contest then why do you have to buy the Book to have the Photo entered
Please Sweet look into it deeper

You are right gabs, I have gotten several responses to this discussion of people who have dealt with picture.com and found that it is a scam. I'm thankful I didn't go ahead and send the money in for the book. :)

I heard of that happening to a poetry contest. It seems that someone told me this is a gimmick. They accept everything sent to them, the trick is they want your money. Sorry I know that isn't what you wanted to hear.
Your roses are gorgeous!

Hi,Sheila! first of all, your pic is beautiful. Would you mind if i downloaded it for my desktop? I am really glad that you decided not to buy the book because i saw thing on scams and they said that if you are told you won something, but they want money ,it's a scam.I think it's a darn shame the way they keep messing with people's dreams like that

Hi jerseygirl! Thank you for the compliment!! You are more than welcome to download it for your desktop. I'm flattered that you have asked me, that is very sweet. Yes, I've definitely decided that I'm not going to buy the book, besides I can use that money for gas in my car or something else much more important. :)

Congratulations on getting your picture into the book. My daughter wrote a poem and entered into poetry.com and and won and that was the catch. She had to buy the book. I was say it would be your choice but it seems no matter what we do there is a catch. Congratulations again.

Isn't there though, you can't get something good it seems without a little something bad to go along with it. I've decided I'm just going to sign that it really is my picture and forget about the book. I can use the money for more important things. :)

I guess it would depend on how steep the book is. That is great news. I would be excited to. I love to take pictures and for someone to recognize that you took a GREAT picture is assume.
Can you post your picture on here? Or is it too much trouble?

That is a very beautiful picture that you took and the roses are beautiful too. I can see why they wanted to publish it in the book. How much are they charging you for the book? I am always hesitant about things like this and whether they are scams or not. I would love to see my drawings or pictures in a book so I might be willing to try it.

Thank you for the compliment about my roses, I'm very proud of them. The price of the book I hate to say is $69.95. So it is on the expensive side. I've also been getting several responses that have had experience with this company saying it is a scam. So I have decided not to buy the book. If I hear of any other legitimate companies I'll be sure to pass it on to you. :)

Its a very pretty picture indeed
But I hate to tell you that they said that out to almost everyone (I too got one)...its some sort of scam though I am not really sure what type or what yet. They still haven't left me alone either.

Thank you penguinsangel,
I have a feeling the same thing will happen to me when it comes to e-mails and such. This is another one of those cases where, if it sounds too good to be true then it usually isn't true. :)

Thank you! You are going to be surprised at how I made the picture. I just laid the roses on the bedspread on my bed and arranged them the way they are and snapped the picture. I was totally shocked!! :)

Your roses are beautiful but I'm wondering why you don't know that picture.com is a scam site? It's the same thing as poetry.com and all their looking to do is get money out of you. I'm sorry that your so excited and hate to break your bubble but please check into this very closely before sending them any money.

Hi.
Congratulations!
just be careful...
I also submitted a picture to that site.. and guess what?
Same email. My photo was selected and once i read the fine print it stated that i would have to fork over some money in the end and they would own all rights to my photo.
Just read all the details before you pay anything.

That is awful how they do people. I wonder how many people have actually purchased the book?
