on lex being arrested on the final episode

why did the cops say that he was being arrested for the murder of lionel luther?

He wasn't arrested for the murder of Lionel but Lana Luther. They believe just like Clark does that Lex killed Lana because if he couldn't have her then no one could. He also found out that Lana had married him because Lionel had threatened to kill Clark if she didn't

He wasn't arrested for the murder of Lionel Luthor but for Lana Luthor. Remember her car blew up while she was supposedly in it (I don't think she was). So he was arrested for it. I'm sure next season it will show he didn't do it at all.
