Have You Ever Been Flat-Out Broke?

Here is the flip side to a discussion I just started about sudden wealth. Have you ever been literally down to your last few dollars? I'm talking broke. When breakfast, lunch and dinner is half a can of pork and beans broke. When nothing's going on but the rent broke. But I don't want this to necessarily be a depressing discussion. I want to hear about how you coped, how you triumphed over scarcity. Did something miraculous happen at the 11th hour to save you? Did some sort of Guardian Angel sweep down and bail you out? Was it the result of an answered prayer? The Law of Attraction? How and or what turned the tide?

i have gone through this. i once spent a day when i only had a few coins in my pocket, not even enough for a ride. fortunately, i got a tutoring job that night, which gave me a few hundred pesos for food. it was a close brush with a dinnerless evening, and i sure would not want to experience that again.

My response is simple, pray to God, have faith in God's mercy, that always worked for my and my wife. From my life experiene that is the best thig to do. I can tell you that I have never been broked but many times I was almost broked, but God always helped us even if we didn't deserved it. And very important don't forget to give some to the poor, it will be given back to you ten times, this is somethig that realy hapened to my wife yesterday. And finaly if it hapens that you get broked, do not revolt, think that maybe there is a reason for this, and then PRAY.

I have been at the stage that I didn't know how I was going to afford to get to work and I still had a young son to provide for! The bills were poiling up and I didn't know which way to turn! In the end my family helped me out as they knew there was something worrying me and made me tell them what it was! I took on extra work and as well as the full time job I already worked I took on 2 part time jobs to pay back all the money I owed! It was hard but the sense of sccomplishment I felt when I repaid everything I owed was overwhelming! I do not know if I could do this now as I have another child and as well as my partner working shifts shifts no one in my family could take on looking after my kids on a regular basis! xxx

I can say yes we have been there. We were so broke and it was the day before I got paid from my job. We had no food and hardly any fuel to get me to work. My husband went into a fast food restaurant to ask the manager if he would be willing to give him a couple of hamburgers to feed my two children. My husband and I went without a lot so my children could eat. It broke my heart to go through this and now I still tear up just thinking about the pain I felt being a hardworker that still could hardly feed my children. Oh on top of that, we were homeless living in a rundown motorhome. I was very humbled for that. Now things are different. I am at a different job. I am staying with my mother for a while. I can feed my children with no problem. I think that I had to go through that very difficult time so I could enjoy and appreciate what I have now. I am glad for every little moment and joy I have. I can now look at life as the glass half full. I will never in my life forget that whole experience.

I have been flat out broke before. In fact, that is how I grew up. We often went without eating. In honest truth what turned the tide was just good old fashioned hard work. I realized that I did not want to live like that and worked as hard as I could to change the tide. My goal in life has been to make sure my kids alwyas have what they need and they never have to experience what I did. cheers,

Hello Hart57 Here is my story and my advice. I have been broke to where I lived inmy car in snow storms ans below zero weaher I had a job, I just could not afford a place to live at the time, whenever I got my pay check I would get in put of the cold and get a motel room somewhere, that would allow me a hot shower and at least buy some kind of a cheap meal. But you know what even though I was homeless at the time I still had more than most who were either broke or homeless. I had a job, the ability to work, and was at least out of the elements. And even in that postion I was forever greatful for wht I had. Cause today I am disabled with a heart condition and unbale to work any more, I am a grand mother of 3 and married five years ago, to an awsome guy. You have a computer, there are surveys you can do that will pay yyou somethong in a day or two, and then there are the ones that pay once a month.. Make your computer work for you. I hope that my story has helped.

I'm flat broke right now! My ways for coping are: find ways to scrounge money - sell extra books at a used book store or on half.com, have a garage sale or list your things on craigslist, STOP driving your vehicle if you have one, and find one of the MANY ways to make money online to bring in a little extra money. It's beats watching tv to cope. The money we make online isn't much buts its better than doing nothing. And don't fall for get rich quick stuff either. A must have is a paypal account. 2nd must have is the ability to get over your pride when it comes to ways to scavenge/scrounge. You can also sell plasma in many places. That's an easy 20-50 per week.

I've hit a couple of points where I've only had a couple of dollars to my name and since I don't have a normal job, whenever income comes in, it does. I don't have a set time for that. I just deal with it as best as I can. I always make it a point to try and stay away from places I'd be tempted to spend and remind myself that things will eventually change. Having supportive people around always helps too.

I have, in the past, been fairly well off but also down in the gutter so I know both sides of this situation. The past couple of years have been really hard for my partner and I after I lost my job and my partner had his hours cut back. There have been times when we have had no money to spare for food and the bills have piled up unpaid. Thankfully, now, my partner has more hours and we have sold a lot of the things we had in the house to pay the bills. We are still not exactly coping but at least by selling things we no longer needed, we were able to manage

You knoww hat, that is where my family is right now. We are in a real finiancial hurt right now. my father just lost his job and i am a huge financial burden becuase of all my mecial expenses. If i were well enough to, i would move out on my own. i am a 23 year old woman. i SHOULD be on my own. However, that is not possible. i need my dear mother to care for me. It's horrible. It makes it even worse knowing i am a part of what is casing them to be out so much money.

I have had a few wobbles in my time. I think the brokest I ever was was when I was 21 and had to get my wisdom teeth out. I had no medical or dental insurance so I had to pay the 975 out of my pocket. This was when I was still a fulltime student and was out of the family home and financially responsivble for myself. I remember making the downpayment, and then the following week had to pay the balance of about 600. I handed the wad over in cash and it KILLED me. The rest of the month was pretty tricky, and I remember right before pay day I had no food, no gas, and no money. Low and behold, I walked out of my house and there was a 20 on the ground. It was literally the luckiest thing that has ever happened to me and the timing couldn't have been better. I remember after the fact my mam asked why I hadn't asked for a loan or something, but it had never occured to me to ask for any help. I had just planned on waiting for that next payday and hanging in there until then.

I have been flat out broke many times before. I made sure that all of my bills were paid but I always tried to do whatever I could to buy food or the extras we needed and so did my husband. We would find little side jobs to do to make some extra money. I earn money online and that helped us out a little also. Nothing miraculous happened other than us finding the means to get what we needed. We did pray alot and I think that gave us courage to do what needed to be done to survive. We got done paying child support and we paid some bills off also and that helped.

We have found ourselves in that situation way too many times to count, but before I would let my hild go hungry, I would eg on the street, Thank goodness that some of the local churches have a food minestry, or we all three might not have made it this long, that goodness that it has been a long time since we were in that situation. We are a one income familoy, and go with out alot ofthings we wold like to have, bit we always have what we need, and the bills are paid.

I have been after graduation. I was desperately looking for a job and I had to live out of my dad's pockets. He gave me an atm card with ready cash in it so I could get by. Of course I only withdrew what I needed minimum. I eventually found a job and gave him the card back. It was so thoughtful of my dad. I didn't asked for his help but he gave it anyway. I don't want to repay him cash for cash, but I'll do someday.

Well lets see--as far as cash money I have about twenty dollars--that is until my SSI benefits are reinstated in about a week or so...thank god I do have my food stamp benefits intact otherwise I'd be eating pork and beans LOL ...but yes, saved at the 11th hour...mine was Friday when I heard the good news that my benefits were to be reinstated...and yes, have had a few angels help me out especially this past month of May when I've been down and out and maybe will give me some money --I also in the past have been lucky since I do make crafts...and will get lucky and sell a few things to tide me over. there been many times I've been broke and have been used to it...but something usually always turns up at the last minute..so yes, definitely think there's a law of attraction there to help me out.

I am a single mom of three who take college courses, so yeah I am basically flat broke all of the time...lol I often become flat broke twords the end of the month...I have nothing in the friege, the cabinets nor in my wallet....I tend to pray everyday and keep a strong faith! I really can't say how it happens but I always find a way to turn the tables...Granted my sudden increase of funds may only last a week, but it always helps.
