Well congrats to them I guess. I don't believe in saints even though I was raised Catholic and my whole family is Catholic except my hubby and kids. I personally feel that God doesn't play favorites that way. I don't recall anything in the bible about cannonizing saints but so be it. Wonder when they will finally get to making Mother Teresa a saint. If anyone deserves it, it is her.

I don't feel like the black sheep. No one in my family treats me any differently - thank God! I understand your points. I hope you understood mine as well. I know I will never revert back to being Catholic simply because of the fact that their beliefs are more based on people rather than the bible. Does not mean I don't treat them the same as any other person though; so I hope you haven't been insulted.

Good, my family was always dropping hints and asking me why I wasn't going to church. I understand your position. I used to feel the same way. I have to disagree with you about the beliefs. They are based on the Bible. I'm not easily insulted:)

Ah, I'll bet you're the black sheep of the family:) I used to be too until I reverted a few years ago. My hubby still isn't Catholic but the kids are. I don't think God plays favorites either. We are all created equally. He wants us all to be saints but because of our free will we must choose to be. I suppose the canonization process isn't in the Bible, but the existence of the saints is. The Bible describes a unity in Christ that extends into the afterlife. Canonization is the recognition of a person alive with Christ in Heaven whose life expressed heroic virtue. Many Christian denominations recognize the Apostles as saints, as well as St. Valentine, St. Patrick and St. Nicholas. I don't know if they have others. I think it's important to continue the recognition of saints beyond the first few centuries. It identifies people throughout the centuries that have lived according to Christian principles. I can't relate to the lives of the Apostles because their lives were so different from mine. But I can relate to more modern day saints. Their lives show me how to apply Christian principles to my life.

I saw part of that as well. Mother Teresa and Pope John Paul the Great will be Saints in due time.

And where is the scriptural authority that allows the Pope to decide who is a saint, or is this just another bit of Catholic innovation? all the best urban

I don't think so that he is a saint! I think he is only a saint in the belief of the catholic church! He will never be a saint to me! I ain't catholic and I don't belive in the catholic teachings.
