Do you SKIN the APPLE before you eat?

I am going to get the ground ready for a little fertile discussion on nutrition... nah, just kidding. I am not a "nutrition freak" who keeps a calorie calculator and swears by soya bean drink for breakfast. But hey, let's talk about fruits. :P
Fruits are not normally what I invite into my mouth. I don't shred up their fibers for the juice either. But I do eat them from them to time - such as when the moon turns pink or when the sun shouts hello. I am just curious here - if and when you eat fruits, do you remove the outer skins?
If you are eating e.g. a durian, that goes without saying (lol). But for fruits like apple or pear, do you skin it before eating? Or do you gobble up the fruit with the skin (but without the core, I hope :p)? Or are you like one of those Egyptian Kings or Queens who lazed on lounges while waiting to be served from a platter? Or are you anti-fruit because a fortune teller once told you they are baddies in disguise?
Do share your thoughts. ;-)

Definitely not, most of the fiber in the apple is in the skin.
Besides, why make it harder to eat the fruit by peeling it, why create extra work for yourself? In this instance you are better off being lazy.

What of those pesticide used? I am not sure just washing it with water will rid the fruit of it..

If it rained and the pesticide got into the ground, it got into the apple. I don't think there is much we can do about it.
If it got into the skin, it probably got into the apple as well.
I have been eating apple skins since I can remember and up to this point, there have been no ill effects.

I think if you rinse the apple (or any other fruit that requires washing before eating) with a mix of baking soda and water it should remove most if not all of the pesticides.
Or you only buy biological fruit which hasn't been sprayed.

Hello baby. Glad to see that you post a thread. Its about time you started one as I've been missing your presence here.
Have you tried durian? I don't like it and have no desire to eat it. We even have durian candies here. For the apple, I can't eat it the way Americans do. I peeled off the skin, cut it into 4 or 6 pieces as well as removed the core. I am very selective with fruits though. My topmost favorite is mango. Banana, watermelon, melon, honeydew, seedless grapes and orange were also on my list of favorites. Baddies in disguise? Not true. Fruits are highly recommended as part of our daily diet. Some of them have a high content of bioflavanoid which is a good source of Vitamin C.

As for durians, either you hate them or you love them.

Thanks for missing me baby but you know I am always with you (LOL, speaking as if I am a spirit already :P).
I LOVE durians. ;-)
Don't confuse durians with durian candies or durian cakes. The candy or cake version tastes DISGUSTING. The real durian is way better. It is not called the King of Fruits for nothing.

Lets start saying that I'm not a fruit fun at all(I told these again but I don't remember to who,I hope not you).I mean that I'll not ever ask to eat any fruit, but when I find it I can eat anyone. If my husband didn't eat fruits maybe even if I have a child and I know how good are the fruits for the health ,I didn't thing remember buy ever.but my husband always remind me(after he ask 3-4 time I'll remember buy )lol:
Anyway if I eat ,whenever I eat a fruit I don't like skin the fruit,I clean good and I eat as it is.Not because the doctors says that these is the good way to eat the fruits but because I prefer them like these.

Apples are one of my favorite foods. I eat one or two everyday. I do skin/pare the apple before eating. I don't know know why, I just don't enjoy the skin. The skin seems to always get stuck between my teeth and then I need to floss right away...OK, I guess I DO know why...lol
Apples..yum, I pull the skin off peaches, too..I don't know why..but, then again..maybe I do...

Totally depends on the fruit my friend. Apples, no, I eat the skin. Ornages, tangerines, grapefruits, etc would be difficult to eat with the skin on..lol. Bananas too. Pears, plums, peaches all skin on. I do try to avoid eating the cores, pits and seeds. They can be a little hard to digest ! :P

I guess they might toughen your teeth lol.
And patgalca, preserved orange peels are edible. I just ate some yesterday in fact. :P
Not sure about the "original" unprocessed version though.. I wouldn't eat orange peels just like that.

I am not a huge friut eater either. I love bing cherries~ and obviously, I don't skin them. I have recently started eating apples dipped in caramel. I eat the skin and all. If I am eating a friut it is for convience so I wouldn't skin it.

I enjoy eating the skins, especially on apples, but if I am cooking I will remove the skins, but only then, I think alot of the nutritions you get from the fruit is from the skin. So in my effort to eat right and serve healthy yes, I do eat with the skin on.

Usually when I put apples in my cooking I am going for a certain look and the peels are not as pretty as the meat in the fruit.

I always eat fruits such as apples, plums, pears with the skin on, must of these fruits hold most of their nutrients in the skin, so I always keep the skin on.
Now fruits like watermelon, cantaloupe, honeydew, and all those other melons out there I generally don't eat the skin on those. Rather bitter tasting if you ask me. :P Also fruits like kiwis I also take the skins off those to, not much wrong with eating kiwi skin, but it always hurts the roof of my mouth.

I most usually eat the apple with the skin on it. I peel it sometimes if I don't feel like eating the skin. I try to watch what I eat also but I don't really count any calories. As I have gotten older, I have had a very hard time losing weight. I never eat the core but I eat all of the apple all around the outside of the core. I do peel some other fruit though before eating.

My teeth are a bit sensitive I am afraid so AI can't eat the skin as it is too stringy. I actually like to skin and grate the apple and put it with Greek eye's strained yogurt and a tablespoon of raw brown cane sugar..It makes a lovely dessert and the kids also love it.

I am one of those people who considers fruit as very important and satisfying part of ones diet. I have to eat fruit at least once a day. It could be apple, pineapple, papaya, mango or banana which are in abundant supply here in my country. So to answer your question, I don't like skinning the apple before I eat but I have to cut it into half then remove the core so that I could savor it to the fullest. I think that the apple is not as tasty as it should be without the skin and not as delicious looking.

Wiz i am writing to you now with an aching stomach, i think the next hour or so i will know why is it like that,
but even when my stomach hurts, you can't stop astonishing me. Where did you get the idea of this post?
I mean we all think about this issue from time to time,
But we never remember to write it as a post. A+ here my friend.
Now, about my apples, i love them, and i can tell you that just today i ate 4 big green apples and did not skin them.
I eat plenty of fruit, and usually whenever it is not needed to skin the fruit, i will eat it as it is.
And yes, in the summer i do tend to have alote of stomach aches. I think it is not because i eat the fruit without skinning it, but because i eat too much fruit.
We have so many kinds of fruits that it is very hard not to eat alote of them in the summer.

I like the skins on my fruit. When you peel away the skin, you are taking away the flavor in my opinion. So I say yes to fruit and to peel.

This here is one lazy wolfie, waste precious time peeling? You've gotta be kidding right? I eat the skin every time! I don't even bother washing the fruit either! I love the skin on apples, although I do spend the time peeling bananas and oranges, well I never buy them, can't stand pips and peeling all the skin and pith off! Don't cringe but I even eat the skin of kiwis! It's all roughage! I love the skin of the apple best bit!

Good morning Lordwarwizard,
Nice to visit with you again. Especially over an issue so near and dear to my stomach. Mmmmm, I do love fruit.
Unless I am making a fruit salad, I do not skin my fruits. With the obvious exceptions of oranges, bananas, pineapple, and the like. Imagine trying to knaw through a pineapples skin?
For fruits like pears, peaches, grapes, apples -- I tend to enjoy the skin as much as the center.
An Egyptian queen, waiting to be served? Naw, I'm the one who can be seen out in the garden picking the fruit off the trees. I can hardly wait to get it into the house and washed off. Sometimes I don't bother waiting. Shhhh, that'll be our little secret.

I don't eat a whole lot of fruits. Sometimes they upset my stomach. I remember as a kid eating apples with the peeling off. I don't do that now. If I do eat an apple, sometimes I prefer it cut in slices.
I recently learned that to balance your body's PH levels you should have more alkalides in your system than acids. So now everyday for lunch I have two pieces each of pineapple, canteloupe, honey dew melon, watermelon and strawberries. I buy these already cut up in a platter. I figure I'm doing pretty good nutrition-wise with that.

I love fruit! I've been eating unpeeled apples all my life and haven't seen a bad side effect yet. There's a lot of good healthy stuff in fruit and vegetable skins and if you give them a good wash it seems like a waste not to eat it. To me the peel is often what gives a fruit or vegetable a bit of taste.

LOL mylord I would love to be fed nice seed free grapes, peeled apple and pear, chunks of pineapple.... I actually like most fruits and I don't eat them more lately because things have been a bit complicated.
I prefer without the skin, and even when I can't peel my pears and apples and whatever fruit I can have, I tend to take the skin off with my teeth and spit it out if I can LOL Even grapes I like without the skin but it's so much work to take it out :)
I wouldn't pay attention if the fortune teller warned me about fruits. I really savor the whole thing - taste, sweetness, texture, I dp enjoy tasting each fruit slowly and usually prefer not to mix fruits except when I'm having a fruit salad and in that case I love it :)
