There's loads of adverts currently on the tv in the UK at the moment for surfing the internet on your mobile and I just wondered who uses their mobiles to do this and why? What pages do you go to when you go onto the internet through this device? How regular do you use it? I have probably been on the web about 4 times since I've been using a mobile and thats got to be in 10 years or so and I can't remember what it was even for probably to download some music or games.

Hi... If I had web and walk I would use it!!!! I want to be able to access mylot because I don't have internet access at home. I tried setting my computer up so I could use my mobile as a modem, but I've had nothing but nightmares - needed this programme to load the disk for my phone, which I did now I don't have enough memory on my pc. So now it looks like I need to get a new pc with more memory! Nothing is ever simple is it?

Actually I don't usually surf to my mobile phone because it's too expensive and it's hard to use because it's very small. But sometimes I surf whenever there is no computer at all.

I think the problems with mobiles is that they're either too small or too expensive to surf the net regularly, but agree that they're are handy when you haven't got a pc to hand. Thanks for responding!

Hi catchkarthi18, welcome to mylot! I think browsing through GPRS is expensive wherever you are in the world unless you have it free with a contract. Thanks for your response!

I do and have. Although right now I haven't because the cost became so stupid and I've tried many networks which like to take unfair amounts, So from my point it's a waste of money. (I still do own a Tmobile sim with a free connection but it's amazingly slow and I wasn't a fan of dial up) lol Kudos ~Joey

I think if the costs were less then more people would use it. I can't justify the costs either to be honest. Thanks for your response!

Actually I surf the web from my cellphone often. I check my mail, I use rss readers to read todays news, check my pages at myspace, mylot and so on. It's quite ok, because You can access the web anywhere and any time. Ok, it's not like surfing from laptop, but it can fit into your pocket.

I have done this on a few rare occasions! I have done it to check email if there was something I was waiting for and couldn't get to a computer, and ebay a couple of times. I know my hubby checks weather from his phone if he isn't in a place where he has access to computer or tv.

Hi, I'd never thought of checking the weather on my mobile, but I think it's a good idea, especially for boaters and people going out for the day. Thanks.

I Do not surf the web from my mobile phone because: *T-mobile charges me alot of money for it :p *Downloading games and music is more money added on. So i just download my games and music through the computer using a usb cable from my phone to the computer.

Thats a good way of doing it if you have either a usb cable or bluetooth, but then again some phones don't come with cables and some pcs don't have bluetooth, so I guess it's swings and roundabouts! Thanks fo ryour response!

Same here and unless you have it in your mobile contract then it is very expensive. Thanks for your response!

We do that. But it's not practical. If your cellphone has a wifi, then there's no problem except for the small display. My husband has Nokia E70 and it is wifi enabled and in our house, there's a wifi, so he can browse the internet thru that. BUT if you are using GRPS, your bill will kill you. It's very expensive, i'm not sure in other countries but here in Bahrain, it is so expensive..not practical...unless you are in an emergency or waiting for a very important mail to come.
@Bizziebod (3497)
7 Jun 07
Yeah I'll agree, unless you have a package in your contract then it can be very expensive to connect through GRPS. Thanks for your input!

I have one phone that is internet capable but I never use it. I have a hard enough time walking and texting let alone trying to surf the web. With my luck I would be on a train and miss my stop by miles because I was engrossed in something lol.

I know some people here in the U.S. sign in to their Yahoo messenger.....but I just don't see the point in it.I like being on the computer and I have to admitt that I spent way more time on here than I should.....but when I'm away from the desk....than that's just it....I'm away from the computer and don't need to be connected to the net. I mean....how would you have time to get anything els done anymore....if all your doing is surfing the net?

I suppose I can see the point if you're perhaps bored and don't have internet access, but I'll agree with you, once I'm away from the pc I don't feel the need to contact it via my mobile, I agree with you that you can spend far too much time on the pc..

I know the cell phones are getting so many features now days.I got a internet connnection on my cell phone and wasn't aware of what i did,I had to go to the cingular place and have them take me off the internet hee hee.I try not to do a lot of things on my cell phone ,they charge for everything you do.I do text message sometimes ,but other than that i try not to add so many things to my phone.Every month when i get my bill i never know what to expect. The phones are getting so updated now that you can get so many things and do not realize it is costing you .

Thats true, they are virtual mini pc's nowadays.. I prefer prepay ones nowadays as like you I hated getting the suprise each month and the last straw was when I got a bill for nearly £200 or $400 ish - so I went prepay and actually spend only about £20 or $40 a month now! Thanks for your response!

Hi tinamwhite, Well done for getting to 1000 by the way! I agree with you with regards to the screen it would be an absolute nightmare to use it constantly! I could see how the instant messaging would be good though.. Thanks for responding!
