Do you retie your shoe laces every time?

One, two, buckle my shoe
Three, four, knock on the door
I hope we have all mastered at least one kind of knot-tying so that we can at least claim to be able to tie our own shoe laces. Arguably, laces are found mostly on shoes for gentlemen. Somehow, they have not yet found popularity with the ladies.
But, but, but, my question for this discussion is whether you retie your shoe laces each time you wear your shoes. It's like, you got back home after a long, tiring day. There are 2 ways to get your feet out of your shoes - the hard way or the easy way. You can either untie your shoe laces then slip your feet out, or, try to force your feet out without untying the laces. The second option also means that you do not need to retie your laces the next day.
For ladies who do not wear shoes with laces, perhaps you can answer on behalf of your husband, boyfriend, or family. For guys, finally, we have a discussion dedicated to your um... feet. So, do you take off your shoes the easy way or hard way? Do you untie and retie your shoe laces each time? Or do you slip out your feet without loosing the laces? Or... ?
Do share your thoughts. ;-)

Hello lordwarwizard, When I buy new shoe, I put them on and tie them up. Take some superglue, and put that on the knot. That way I don't have to retie them all the time. There is one thing wrong with doing this, I wear out all the heals quickly. But I am lazy and don't like to tie my shoes!
Peace:-)

Yes, a little superglue on the knot holds longer than the shoe!

I'm one of those who unties and reties my shoes. I find I have to do this cause I cant stand for my shoes to flop around of slide off my heels. I have seen people who slip into their shoes without untying them or just walk on the heel without getting into the shoe. I dont understand. I have a hard time finding shoes that fit me well that I try to hold on to them as long as I can. I guess that's why I untie ( or maybe my mother made me) them and retie them.

The shoes with laces almost always get untied and retied at our house. The "running" shoes - neither of us run - are hard to get on and off without untying the laces and they are about the only kind here with any laces at all.
I'm lazy, but I do untie my shoes.

I hate laces. I like to buy boarder shoes (skateboarder) so what I do is put my foot into the shoe, figure out what is tight enough to feel snug and keep the shoe on my foot but still easy enough to pull my foot out of, then I will know my shoe laces, right at the eyehole of where they poke through the side of the shoe and then I will cut the rest of the hanging string off. This way I have laces but never have to do them up or worry about tripping over them. My dad uses velcro shoes coz he can't be bothered with tying shoes. He knows how but well, I think he's just lazy and dad says its coz he's got too much else to do to worry about taking time to tie his shoes. My older brother buys fairly expensive shoes that don't have laces. they are slip ons or he has sandels which he wears probably 300 days of the year. Then there is my little brother, he uses big old work boots and he unties them to take them off and ties them when he puts them back on. he always double knots them so that when he is at work they won't come undone as that could eb dangerous to his life (at work). My mom has severe back issues and so she uses slip on shoes to help her so she doesn't hve to bend over as that si very difficult and painful for her.

I actually only wear shoes that have to be tied. I always tie and untie my shoes when I take them off. As a child my father would get mad at us if we didn't tie and untie our shoes each time we put them on and took them off. After a while I just got into the habit. My fiance wears a pair of boots everyday to work that he has to zip and unzip to take them off and on.

this is a habit that i have observed in a friend of mine. i used to wonder how she can get her feet off the shoes without untying the shoelaces. and yet, when she is in the process of wearing those shoes, she had to untie the shoelaces first before slipping her feet in then retie the shoelaces once more.

It's a challenge, lol, to slip the shoes off your feet if you tied the laces too tight. :P

Apparently or so they say that if you take your shoes off without first undoing the laces then it damages the heel of the shoe, but what the heck, with new shoes I always undo the laces first because they aren't easy to slip off, but once they get well worn in then yes I'm a lazy beast and just slip them off, but I do undo and retie them when I put them back on again. I much prefer slip ons and glorious velcro, who ever invented velcro deserves a medal in my eyes

It does? I haven't heard that it damages the heels.
As for velcro, well, here, it is viewed as for kids only. :P

I heel off my sneakers without untying them. They stayed tied and I just slip them back on. I have walking shoes which I tie and untie. Other shoes are slip-ons with no laces.
I don't know about where you are but kids these days wear their sneakers as such that the laces are so loose they do not need tying or untying.
My husband wears ducks, which he slips on and off. He wears sandals, on which he has to undo the velcro every time he takes them off. That way I know who just walked in the door! LOL! When he wears his sneakers (to the gym) he ties and unties them. I think that is probably the best thing to do because it is sure to save on the wear and tear on the shoes.

Oh, but we are talking about shoes! :P
Velcros are acceptable on sandals. In fact, without velcro, a sandal seems more appropriately called a slipper. Adults can wear sandals with velcro of course.. it's just velcro on shoes.

I always wear a form of tennis or running shoe since I have weak ankles and need the support they give unlike sandals or flip-flops give your feet. So I only wear sandals when I am feeling extra lazy.
I always untie my shoes when I am taking them off, trying to get them off while they are still tied usually will damage the shoe after repeatedly pulling on the back of them or however you pull them off without untying them first. And I like keeping my shoes for as long as possible, since no matter what brand you get these days they still are a bit pricey to be replacing every few months.
And of course I always tie my shoes when I put them back on, that would just be silly of me if I left them untied. That just wouldn't be all that smart, especially with the possibility of stepping on one of the shoestrings and possibly tripping yourself, that would be sooo embarrassing. :P

Yeah that to, but at the time it happened, I'd probably be to embarrassed to notice the pain, til after the emabarrassment had subsided. Thanks for the medal. :)

I never untie or retie my laces unless they come undone . I can't be bothered to retie them everytime I put them on and can't be bothered to untie them when I take them off . I like to be able to just slip on a pair of shoes when I want to go out and once you tie them the first time you don't have to worry about them again unless they come undone but I always tie my little one's shoelaces when they go out as I find that it would be too hard to put them on if they were already tied just because I find it can be awkard to fit there little feet in sometimes .

I always wear sneakers or flip flops unless dress calls for a different kind of shoe. I never retie my sneakers. The only way I would tie my sneakers is if they became untied. Because I wear them everywhere all the time, I would say there is enough dust and street "dirt" to keep them tied for a long time. Those ties are just settled in. That reminds me. I really need to get a new pair. By the way, I wear Hush Puppies. They are so comfy. I have been wearing that brand for so many years.

I have no idea. I just love to slip them on. Tying shoes are for people who have nothing do.

wizzy, to tell you the truth I cheat and I go barefoot. Or is I am going out I wear sandals or croc shoes. In the winter I wear Crocs boots, and they don't have laces either. I never have to tie any of them in the first place, let alone retie them.

I usually try to avoid shoes with laces, but they seem to be coming into my Life anyway...
I have a "fisherman's" knot tying ability and I know several types of knots and lacing arrangments that will facilate the removal of shoes without the need to re-tie the knot every time... just tightening will do...
Here's a link to a discussion that I started on knot-tying:

You'll find animations that will have you tying knots like a pro in no time! :)

You can't imagine how clumsy I am with knots.
I always thought it cool to know how to tie all sorts of knots. I tried to learn a few times... but always failed.

I always tie and untie my laces, I used to just slip them on but after awhile the shoe and laces become stretched, so I had to retie them anyway!!
So as it only takes a couple of seconds longer to tie them, than slip them on, I do this and gain a little exercise at the same time. LOL!

Some of us ladies do have laces on our shoes and yes I retie some of them it depends upon the shoes. If I have tie tennis shoes I will retie them because I do not want them to fall off my feet. If they are casual shoes I usually slip them off my feet.
My hubby has had bilateral hip replacement and cannot tie his shoes or boots. He wears the slip on shoes but he has nice lace up boots. When he needs to wear them I then lace them up for him.
Hows that for your theory? LOL
