Can anyone explain why the volume on my TV changes between channels?...and pretty drastically too. I have cable tv, is it a problem with my the cable, my television? What? Also, why on some channels are commercials so much louder than the regular viewing? If I am not paying attention and a commercial comes on sometimes I jump right out of my skin.

I know I hate that also, I think the commericals are louder cause they are trying to get our attention to the commerical, that is all I can think why it is so loud, I usually keep my television low during the day while I work so that I can check back and see what is going on, but the commercials need to go.

So you think it is on purpose and there is nothing that can be done about it? Bummer.

I don't have cable honey - so I am not sure what would make it change between channels although I do think they set them all at different levels on different networks. The thing about commercials being so loud is the same here in the UK and I know why they do it - it is so that you take notice of the adverts when they are on! You know what though makingpots I beat them at their own game - I either switch channels or turn the tv off when they do this! xxxx

Me too. I mute it. So half the time I don't listen to any commercials.... defeats the purpose don't you think?

This is not your tv. I have this happen every now and then. It's something to do with the cable company. Some of these commercials are done in hdtv and there for are much louder then normal. When i get commercials i just hit the mute button and watch until my show comes back on. I still don't under stand why the hdtv commercials don't stay on those channels that are set up for it but this is how the cable company does things.

I'm with you- My TV does the same thing- One station is so low you have to turn it up- and then when you change it- you literally jump out of your skin- it scares the crap out of me! lol... I'm a channel surfer- so it happens all the time- My daughter will yell- MOM---- lol.. I have no idea why they do this- I think it is a cable thing- I read somewhere you can buy TV's that adjust automatically so the volume is all the same-

That is what another person said, that the volume is set and saved at a certain level. My TV has some options I have not explored, I'll have to check into that.

Previously I also had a similar problem. The volume level changed by itself between chnnels. Try to store the sound level at a particular value, if there is such an option in your TV remote. I did that, and now the problem is solved.

I think this happens with all TV's and commercials, movies, etc...mine is the same way. I am wanting to say it probably depends on how the show or commercial was made. If recorded at a low volume then the show will be low volumed causing you to turn your TV up to hear it better, but if recorded at a higher volume then you get your ears blasted causing you to turn your volume down. Then there is the ones that control the remote (hubby & kids) and think the volume should be so high because they can't hear it, yet you can hear it outside down the block....lol Thank god there's a mute button! ;)

Absolutely! It is the only button on my remote that shows any wear and tear.

I do not think it has anything to do with your TV at all. Sometimes they make the commercials a little bit louder to get your attention. It it does work most of the times.

I know and its been happening to me too. I cant stand it. I will be upstairs and my husband will be downstairs and I will hear it get real loud. My husband said it only happens on commercials. And it doesnt happen on the upstairs tv. I just wish it would stop.

Its the commercial itself, its recorded louder to get your attention. There was a big drama here in Australia about this about a year ago, its getting better since they put limitations on the volume. But I agree it did used to make us jump out of our skins.

Responding via email as I do, i ams ure someone has pointed out a few of my points, but oh well..lol. I hate when you are watching a movie or program, and have to turn it up because you cannot hear what they are saying. Then all of the sudden, something blows up or there is a car crash and it blares so loud you are sure the neighbors 1 mile away heard it !! I think they trun the commercials volume up, because that is when most of us are off to the bathroom or kitchen, so they turn the volume up louder to make sure we can hear it from the other room !! AT least that is my opinion on it.

Oh, that drives me nuts. Yeah, commercials are louder to get our attention (but not always). As for volume varying from channel to channel and movie to movie it's due to what sort of stereo that station broadcasts out of and with movies they can be broadcast in Dolby or TMX. If your t.v. has Dolby surround built into it, then you're going to get optimum sound from a program that is broadcast in Dolby and it may seem louder to you than the next movie. A little something I learned when working with electronics :)

I knew there had to be a reason. Doesn't sound like I can do anything about it if I have that stuff built in my tv. Thanks for the response.

We have satellite programing and we get the same thing...sometimes the program we are watching is so quite we have to turn the volume up so high then the commercial about breaks our ear-drums...LOL I always try to hit the "mute" button when the commercial is getting ready to begin...but that is a pain-in-the-butt!! We have a fairly new big screen television so I do not think it is the TV...besides...it only seems to occur on certain channels...LOL

there's only one explanation - commercials. they want to make money, they get your attention by hook or by crook. there should be some agency regulating against this! people are becoming deaf because of their irresponsiblity!

It is all because of technical problems and got nothing to do with commercials or programs. A program s recorded say at x decibels of sound, the commercials would have been shot at y decibles (yx). so when both are broad casted by the same channel, i.e they are subjected to same frequency, you hear the commercials to be higher volumed. This also happend between the channels. Two different channels broadcasting at two different frequency levels cant carry the same sound and even picture too. The better frequency channel will be having higher volume and clear picture compared to not so better one when broadcasting the same

ill try to help. when a tv programe breaks, the adverts are designed to get your attention. The volume rise is to grab your attention blessed be

I've noticed my TV does that with other channels, I an have the volume where I like it, change the channel and it either blows out my ear drums or I can hardly hear it. I only notice it on the TV that has the digital cable on it, so it must have something to do with that, I guess.
