myLot for income?

I was talking to some fellow freelance writers and the discussion turned to whether or not there were really ways to make any substantial amounts of money on the internet. As in, could we make a full-time living out of freelance writing for websites. The discussion turned to myLot and I took the idea and used it to write an article about my experiences with myLot over the past few weeks that I have become more active.
Before anyone reads this and jumps down my throat, I am not dissing or disrespecting myLot or it's users. I am merely taking a valid look at whether a serious freelance writer could make a living using myLot. I determined that this is not possible, but I wanted to share my work on this subject with my fellow myLot readers and writers. Please feel free to leave comments on the article itself and of course leave a comment and discuss what you've read here on the myLot discussion board. Your friendly critiques and opinions are more than welcome!

Cher, that's what I'm trying to say. You're lucky if $1 per day is enough to buy a sandwich anymore, let alone live on. Therefore, I really don't believe myLot is good if you are trying to write for a living.

ya your right, but even most freelance writing doesnt pay well enough to support a person these days with people only offering as low as $1.50-$3.- per 500 words...
most writers i know have day jobs or have some other way of supporting themselves....

True, but I think there are also more legitimate freelance writing jobs out there that would offer more than just $1-$3 per 500 words. Everyone has to start somewhere, but dollars are still better than pennies!! :)

I agree completely. Though I do think myLot is a great place to talk to people and cultivate ideas. Thanks for responding!

It was a job well done, my friend. Keep it up, you are a good writer. I see a good future for you on that field.

Okay I read your article, I think you could have been a little less negative =) But whatever that is your feelings and I can't argue with them =) I love myLot and I totally agree that you cannot make an income from myLot. I am on here for fun and to make some spending money. That is all I get out of it, $10-$20 a month for Ebay fun stuff! I love myLot and I think the more time you are on here and get use to everything your earnings will go up. I average at least .02cents per post, maybe your earnings go up after so many posts...I couldn't tell you. But yeah this site is not for income, just fun money =) Good discussion I give you a +!!

Hi Michele, thanks for writing! I didn't mean to sound negative so much. I was trying to paint a picture of exactly what myLot does as opposed to what people may think it does. I saw somewhere else that earnings may go up after so many posts. I'd love to know what that number is! myLot is a little too secretive about how you earn on here...!

I've been writing for the web and actively finding writing jobs on the web since 1999. I haven't been focusing my efforts on the quick fix, instant gratification sites where open content is the premise, though. I've been focusing on content rich sites (like online magazines), print publications and things like that. There's a wealth of opportunities out there for writers who are willing to dig, query like crazy, follow up with editors, examine submission guidelines, find their niche and all that jazz. I started on mylot to pad the fact that I've been out of the "biz" for a period of time and I really need to keep busy with income producing activities.

You're absolutely right! There are no quick fixes. I do like places like AC because they give me a place to jump in and get my feet wet again while making a few dollars. Like I said before, I guess dollars are better than pennies. I have also had another job offer based on work I did on Associated Content, so the work there is still worth the effort, even if it doesn't produce as much income.
