Are there any Free Staters out there? If so what do you believe? If you are not a free stater or are against it, why?
The reason I ask is because I am Canadian and as anyone who has read some of my posts knows, I am trying to move to the USA. I have been studying the politics, history, etc... because it does genuinely insterest me and honestly now that I am making friends in the US on my frequent weekend visits to my boyfriends town I want to be able to talk to our friends intelligently instead of sitting there while conversation flies by me about current events and people I know nothing about! Anyways! I am trying to learn more about Free Staters and what they believe and feel and think but have been getting conflicting information from the internet.
Anyone out there want to tell me what it's all about?

I think they're the folks who's a part of the Free State Project..they believe that, Americans are slowly losing their freedoms (which they are) and that people who still wish to keep their freedoms should move to New Hampshire, which they hope to make a free state out of..by refusing to go along with the new laws the government's creating..most likely, like Real ID.
If my brain's working right anyway..it's uber early morning here..and I've yet to get some sleep, heh.

Yes, this is the group that I'm talking about. I honestly think I believe most of what they are saying but I am also seeing writings on the Internet that are somewhat sexist and racist and they are written under the guise of "the Free Staters" and I just want to know if anyone who was a Free Stater would be able to clear it up as to whether they are reacist or not. Or anyone who knows Free Staters... It seems like such an interesting concept, a minimalist government... I think that is what everyone wants.

I think before you come to that concluscion that they are racist I would go to the source, someone who actually lives it because you can get alot of disinfo on the net, I have seen alot of disinfo on groups or people, I say go to a few sources first who are in the group.

I think a free state is a country that is governed (or maybe ruled) by 'the people'. Rather than a monarchy or a dictator etc. I think this because I know when Britian was a republic between 1649 and 1660 it was described as a free state.
But this is in literal terms. I think Britian still is a free state as it is now because although the government's working has to go through the monarchy, I think this is only a time-honoured tradition, not really necissary.
I do believe in free state because the people have a higher standard of living in truely free states.

Sorry I just realised you wrote 'free stater'. What is a free-stater exactly?

There is a group of people in the USA that call themselves Free Staters. They from what I can see believe in a country with no taxes, minimal law etc... It sounds very appealing but I am also hearing things like they are racist etc... So before I can say yes I believe in the Fress Stater group I want to know what it is about because if it is a racist group, I can't support it.

Oh really? That sounds interesting, I've never heard of them. Are they like Gypsies / travellers? Here we have gypsies and travellers, sometimes called pikeys, and they live and move around in caravans and set up whereever they like with little regard for whether the land they are on is private or public property. They have rights as an ethnic monority but don't pay taxes and earn money by knocking on people's doors and offering to do manual jobs, although alot of people don't trust them because they tend to steal from people. Is this what free-staters are like?
