Moms, can you afford to work part time?

Lots of moms work full time outside the home because they have no choice. But, others just want to have a little activity outside the house. For awhile, I considered getting a part time job to help us defray household costs. But after calculating monthly daycare costs ($600 monthly) and commuting costs, my husband and I concluded that it would actually be cheaper if I just remained a stay at home mom. Do you find this to be true in your situation? Do you find that it's almost too expensive to have just a part time job? Or, have you found a way around the costs associated with working away from the home and being a mom at the same time?

You made the right decision. Children needs their mother at home and wouldn't like to have a part time mom whom they only see at night. Take care of the kids yourself and they will grow to be good citizen.

Working from home is a great way to get around this as there are no daycare cost or commute costs. There's a list of some great jobs for stay-at-home-moms here. http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/179566/job_ideas_for_the_stay_at_home_mom.html

I just started working part time on the weekends. It works well with my husbands schedule because he works 2nd shift. One of us is planning on getting another job as well because everything is getting so expensive and we want to have something saved for a house.
