I like green salads because you can add so many different veggies to it to give it a different taste everytime. I like pasta salads too, with veggies added. I like potato salad, but I can do without the macaroni salad. Salads are good to eat in the summer time when it is warm out. It is a light food that doesn't make you feel miserable after you eat it.

Just the name salad makes me cringe because I automatically think of toss green salad. I like it I do but it just seems like something I have to eat instead of something I eat because I enjoy it. Okay that did not make sense. I do enjoy a vegetable salad though with out reservation! Macaroni is good to really but I still wince when I have to eat it! Why is that?

I think it has to do with the dressing and if you make it with iceberg lettuce it is boring. I use romaine, spinach, leaf lettuce, red peppers, green peppers, green onions, broccoli, and sometimes celery and grated carrots and grated cheese. Maybe with the macaroni salad, it is the cheese and you cannot do much with it except change from mayonnaise to Miracle whip. I do not like eating things with just one or two colors and I do seem to pile on the pounds when I have a pasta or potato salad. That could be it.

Excellent points! Yes I do try to make my salad with a variety of greens sometimes. Well by that I mean ice-berg and romaine. So I am not as creative as you! LOL Good for you though because I think it is important to eat lots of salads. Do you? I also agree about the macaroni and potato salads; the weight just piles on! I just have to stay away from it most of the time. I eat pretty healthy and I am still overweight. Imagine how much more weight I would have on me if I didn't watch what I eat?

When it comes to eating salads I like the full works and I like a bit of everything but even I will draw the line at macaroni and potato salad ewww not for me. I like a bit of colour too, reds like tomatoes and radishes and red peppers give the salad a better look and with salad cream and cheese, mmm delicious!

I like green salads, with lots of tomatoes, red and green peppers, broccoli, green onions, and red onions if they are on sale. I prefer romaine and also spinach leaves. I prefer Italian dressing but will try out some other dressings.

I make my own potato salad, but I cannot eat too much of it. I am mainly a green salad lover and I do love some vegetable salads.

Funny I should come across this discussion...I've been having a lot of salads lately and just tonight I had some romaine lettuce, with homemade macaroni and potato salads, and a deviled egg--I make my own macaroni salad as I just don't care for the taste of the kind you get at a deli

I make my own potato salad, do not care for macaroni salad, but I decided to just stick to green salads because of my weight problem. The deli kinds cost too much.

it depends on what i'm in the mood for. i like regular green salads sometimes, but i always loved pasta salads. don't know how healthy those are for you, but to me they always tasted good. as for macaroni salads. i wasn't that fond of them mostly because i don't really like mayo. but if i'm really hungry, i'll eat them since they always came in the plate lunches i would get.

I doubt macaroni salads are that helpful, unless they're made with whole wheat or brown rice pasta. I should really search the web to find them.

any of the salads you mentioned i won't resist. depending on other foods that i will have with my salad type matters. like if i have pork chop or fried chicken my taste will go for garden fresh salad with italian dressing or lite ranch. if i'll be having baked chicken, beef stew or grilled fish i love potato salad while for macaroni salad i'd love it goes with any barbeque, grilled sausage and shrimp tempura.
fruit salad with any fresh fruits or i love to add gulaman as well with milk and ice cubes.
if we eat salads in moderation we won't gain weight as long as we do proper exercise too.

It's the macaroni salad you have to be careful of -- the bad carbohydrates and those low cal dressings usually have more sugar in them.

Thanks. I think this not loving rabbit food a guy thing. I guess because they can lose weight just by thinking, whereas us girls. But seriously, I can make a very good potato salad. First I make sure the eggs are hard-boiled, I use dry mustard mixed with some dijon or heavy type mustard, green onions, grated carrots, finely chopped green peppers, Kraft salad dressing or equivalent, a little plain yoghurt, and one small dill pickle chopped. If I do not have the latter, dill weed, either fresh or dried Oh yes I must not forget the potatoes (I can use red or russets, but since I mash the potatoes with a ricer, I prefer the russets), a sprinkling of paprika. I have not yet made a good macaroni salad yet, as there is usually chopped up Spam or cubed ham in it, and I'd rather have macaroni and salmon salad. But I guess you can't get everything you ask for

I love shrimp salad, I had on the cruise once. In fact, I tried every salad that we could not get at home because it was too expensive.

I like all kinds of salads so I don't know which I'd say I prefer; I guess it depends on what I'm having with it or if I'm having a salad as a meal or with a meal. I'm afraid I like macaroni and potato salad too much, but I don't have them all that often. I've never found macaroni salad from a deli or salad bar that I liked, it seems some places they make it real sweet and I don't care for it that way personally. Your potato salad sounds yummy! I like what I call a chef salad, but I'm not sure if that's the proper word for it since I just throw whatever I think of into it. I usually use romaine lettuce, tomatoes, onion, other veggies such as cucumbers, carrots, and peppers if I have them, some lunch meat like peppered ham, cheese, bacon bits, croutons...I feel like I'm forgetting something here. I like Catalina or Italian dressing - sometimes a little of both! Some people like hardboiled eggs with it too, I have them sometimes but no always.
I can't discuss salad without mentioning taco salad, chicken, tuna or egg salads. It's funny how some people associate salads with diets but some of this stuff is far from "diet" fare!

No macaroni salad for me. It seems like it is really familiar here in usa, but I just can't stand it. It is just too fatty for me. I really like potatoe salad, but that one with vinegar and sugar not this one with mayonaise. I also like green salad, I use to eat it all year, also I will mix it with some other vegetables. I have just eat this weekend first time spinach like a salad and it was pretty godd.

I absolutely LOVE salads. I could eat one every day. I guess if I had to choose between the types, I would have to go with the green salad. My favorite is the Kraft Seven Layer Salad. Here's the recipe for ya...Smile!!INGREDIENTS
* 1 (16 ounce) package salad greens
* 1 cup thinly sliced celery
* 1/2 cup chopped green pepper
* 1/4 cup sliced green onions
* 1 (12 ounce) package OSCAR MAYER Center Cut Bacon, cut into 1-inch pieces, cooked
* 1 (10 ounce) package frozen green peas, thawed
* 1 1/2 cups KRAFT Mayo Real Mayonnaise
* 3/4 cup KRAFT Shredded Cheddar Cheese
Directions
1. Place greens in large glass bowl. Layer celery, green pepper, onions, bacon and peas over greens.
2. Spread mayo evenly over peas, covering the top completely and sealing to edge of bowl. Sprinkle with cheese.
3. Cover and refrigerate 2 to 12 hours to blend flavors. Toss before serving, if desired.
I normally leave out the green peas and onions, but it's all in what you prefer.
Enjoy!!
