I work in a Joint Venture in China.this is a sino-canadian company. i work as a translator,so i am the intermedium between our Chinese and Westerners.
i have been on this position for one year, but before this week, i didnt realize the cultural shock between different countries.suddenly i felt it strongly last wednesday...the reason is my coworker had an incident during his work last week, that caused a loss for the company...as i translated the incident report so detailed, the general manager still cannot understand why it happened, he began to use very terrible language towards my people...that is really insulting...
but the most terrible thing is that i am not able to explain anything...coz he really wont understand what i am saying---that is the different views to observe things from different culture.
i dont think the incident is that serious, but now it seems a big conflict between us.
so how can i deal with that???i am really depressed about that these days!!!

you mean your manager is a foreigner, and your coworker is Chinese?then your coworker made a small mistake, but your manager think that is severe?what is it?the incident?can you tell me?
by the way,i think something we guess is no big deal, for example, getting late for several mintues in a meeting, some foreighers will think it's terrible.

yea, my boss is a foreigner. one day we tried to lift one of the critical equipments, but the equipment felt down.no one injuried and the equipment has been fixed.and get the report detailed written and submitted to the safety.so we went through the company procedure, but still cannot get the understanding of our head.really frustrated!!!
no word from our side has power now, just can wait for the boss to decide what is the way to solve the problem.
i feel no strength from head to bottom.

as i see the problem has been solved, what did he want to decide?i guess he is going to see whose responsibility it is.i don't know your boss's way of doing things, but i am sure it's not your fault, you have explained it clearly,is there a possiblity to ask your boss what he is thinking?
you mentioned he said terrible words to insult his employees, well,i look down upon him.
