So tragic. Can you believe this?

There has been an ongoing search in a neighboring county to mine for two young boys who have been missing since early Saturday morning. The boys, age 8 and 11 were found this morning, dead in the trunk of their parent's car!! No one thought to look there early in the search. The boys died of hyperthermia. (it was 92 degrees here Sat and Sun) At this point no foul play is expected as the boys had been known to play in the trunk before!!!! Why in the world would someone let children play around a car? I have a neighbor who doesn't say anything where her five little boys play hide and seek UNDER her large SUV and continually play games around and under the car! Would you let children play around a vehicle or in a vehicle?

What a truly awful thing to happen! It really is heartbreaking isn't it? I have heard of tragedies similar to this before and No I would not let my kids play around cars! Having said that kids do not always do as they are told and have been known to do the exact opposite of what their parents tell them. xxx

This is terribly tragic. I can't understand why nobody thought to look in the trunk before if the boys had been known to play there in the past! I would never let my kids play around or in a vehicle like that. As this case demonstrates, it's just too easy for something terrible to happen. What if the kids played IN the car and accidentally let the handbrake off? The car could have rolled and caused a serious accident, not only endangering themselves, but other people too. I only hope, as horrible as this sounds, that the parents of these 2 little boys learned a lesson from the tragic loss of their kids. I also hope that it's sent a message to other parents out there that might let their kids play in or around their vehicles.

No way would I let kids play near a vehicle. Too many things can happen. This story is tragic. It is something that needn't of happened. Your neighbor with the SUV just got a wake up call, I hope.

Man, that's just tragic. You have to wonder what some parents are thinking letting their kids play aroung vehichles like that. I hate to pile on as I'm sure they must feel horrible and terribly guilty. Playing in the car, especially the older ones is just too dangerous when all they have to do is bump against the stick shift to get the car rolling.....horrible.

I wouldn't and I don't. Sometimes if I am waiting in the parking lot for my husband or my mom to come out of the store or whatever I will let my son jump up front with me but other than that no. I can't beleive that. That is just horrible. Especially since they have been known to play in the car how can that not be one of the first places to look.

i guess the important thing to remember is making sure you know where your kids are, and better yet, if they're playing someplace safe. any place could prove dangerous for children...because of all the activity that they do. freak accidents do happen. it is just so sad to hear about it happening to these young boys. it goes to show that parents need to be more diligent.

First of all why do you assume that they were allowed to play in the trunk. You say that they have been known to play in the trunk not that they were allowed to. My kids were not allowed to play on the chicken coop 8 ft tall, but they did it when they thought no one was looking. They would climb up there and jump off. My 2 grandkids would climbon top a dog shed that was about 8ft tall and jump off. They were not allowed to but they did it any way. They could have broken a leg. Maybe the kids were told not to play in the trunk but did it any way. Kids do things they are not supposed to.

Oh how sad. What a waste of young life. I feel so sorry for the parents. Like so many other places, cars can be dangerous but fun as well. I mean we always had boats and we played in and under them as well and I suppose, looking back, there were plenty of opportunities for tradgedy. And on a farm! I loved it as a kid. Farm equipment, farm animals, silos, conveyor belts, stacks of straw to fall and bury you, razor sharp blades everywhere - oh it just goes on and on. I suppose you just have to do your best as a parent, warn kids to be sensible and think of dangers and then let them get on with it and pray to keep them safe.

Yup, cars are naturally fun for kids because it lets their imagination run wild. Growing up on a farm must've been super fun~! I just pray this family doesn't go through anymore misery than they're already in.. I feel so sorry for them~! Parents try to do the best they can, and sometimes the best just isn't enough..

Oh my! That's horrible. I'm sure the parents will be thinking about this for some time now and of course feel guilty. But it's too late for these two little boys. A car or around cars is no place for kids to play, no matter the age.

This really is very disheartening for their parents, naturally! But I guess it is still their faults - partly maybe. I couldn't believe how they would let their kids play in a car unsupervised. Okay, so maybe they were busy attending an affair or tending their work or chatting with visitor friends, how come they never thought of their kids? I know I'm not in the position to question what they did. Now, all they could do is bury them and ask forgiveness for themselves. How really tragic!

Oh this is truely sad, the poor children, parents and family. No I would never let my children play around my car. I have a van and have caught them playing inside of it before but have told them to get out and that they are not to play inside or around cars. You would think these boys would have been banging on the trunk for sometime. but even so this is very sad and a lesson for everyone.

knowing children, they are very playful that they don't care of their safety. so parents or guardian must take their responsibility to look up to their children where they're playing and must warn them if its not a safe place to go.

Absolutely not. That was a dreadful way for these two poor little boys to die did no-one even hear them? Surely they must been screaming or banging on the lid. What an irresponsible thing for any adult to allow.

OMGosh that's terrible and to answer the question no way! I am paranoid about it. I dont even let them play in the driveway because I'm afraid the cars emergency brake could fail and the car could roll over them. My hubby thinks i'm paranoid but I don't care. Better safe than sorry, although at age 11 I am sort of suprised he didn't know better?! I try and stress the importance of safety things like this to my boys, I just hope they listen.

No, I don't allow my son to play in or around any cars! There was a story like this last summer I think near where I am from. I think there were 3 children, but I am not clear on that. I just wonder what makes the police and the family not think to look in the cars and trunks of cars that are around the property first? I guess you have your mind so set on finding the kids that you don't always think of every place to look. I am so sorry for those parents, because yes this will haunt them for the rest of their lives I'm sure.

This is very sad. No, I would never allow children to play in the trunk of my car. If the parents had kept their vehicle locked and kept the keys where the kids couldn't find them, then their babys would still be alive. That's just a horrible shame.
