We rented a room to someone cause they were going to go to a homeless shelter and we wanted to help them out. we thought they were a friend. The first month they payed nothing but maybe buy a couple of cans of coffee and some cream. That person became way too comfortable and even cussed our son (17) and has no respect for our house he smokes and i found almost a cup of tobacco on the floor. The person has burned holes in our carpet and treated us like crap and this includes treating my 70 yr old mother like crap what do you think i should do??? Last nite I told this person that they had to move.

I would tell them to move on also. YOu did a huge favor to them and they treated you with no respect at all. I wouldn't feel guilty, you tried, they didn't uphold their end of the deal. Some people just want others to feel sorry for them and never do anything on their own. They go through life expecting handouts and everthing free. Given 'em the boot!

I would totally tell this person to hit the road and tell them they owe you money for rent and damages done to your property. You did them a huge favor and now they aren't being respectful to you and your family.

That is why I have been told never to rent a room or an appartment to a friend or relative. They get too comfortable and take advantage of your kindness to rent out to them in the firstplace.
I think you did the right thing to tell them to move out. Now you just have to stand your ground and make shure they are doing what they need to do to move out.

It sounds like this person has problems you aren't prepared to deal with. I say you are doing the right thing in asking them to leave. I would also consider that he can remain a friend and seek guidance from you. This person obviously is missing something that is causing pain and will have to come to grips with it. You are just helping the journey to healing.
