I've been offered to cater lunches at my bf work place. It seems like that some of the people there which have tasted my food...thought it would be a great idea for me to sell ready made lunches.
That sounds all well....except for one small problem...I have never done anything like that before.
I mean sure I have cooked for company....but that is different....because I get to do this at home.
I've got the menu down and I did some checking on what other places charge for something like that($8-$20 depending on the food and number of people).....but I'm still not sure how to pull this of otherwise.
For instance....should I plate the food or do buffet style? What is the best way to keep food warm....or would it be better to reheat it there?
If you have done something like this before or if you have any ideas at all....I would greatly appreciate your input.
Thanks!!

Wow.. sounds like a lot of stuff. I've never done it before but I had a friend that use to work at a place that did that. They made crossiant sandwhiches, salads, a type of desert and then fruit or something... then in the winter they had soups and chili or what not. You could make a menu and have the person choose what they want the day before. In terms of keeping it warm, you could put them all in like a big tray and cover it in aluminum foil or something. Good luck!

I would make up a menu for the week and make one plate lunch per day. Hand the menu out for the following week the week before. That way they can see what you are having on each day and plan to order. Take orders the day before when you deliver the lunches each day--get order for next day. Some easy things:
Spaghetti and meat sauce with vegetable and/or salad, garlic bread.
Pot Roast, rice and gravy or mashed potatoes, veggie, salad, roll.
Red beans and rice, salad and veggie, cornbread.
Jambalaya (don't know where you are located but popular in the south)
Fried Chicken, cole slaw, veggie, mashed potatos.
Baked Chicken, vegetable, salad, roll.
Pork Chop, vegetable, salad, roll/bread.
You can vary the menu each week if you see something isn't very popular. Gives them a better variety.
I would stock up on styrofoam plates and get the utensils prepackaged with napkins to make things easier on you. Good luck to you!

That seems like a good idea, to make extra money, I have done that before a many of times. My sister does it too.
