Have you ever been fingerprinted?

You don't have to be a criminal to have been fingerprinted. Many employers now require job applicants and employees to be fingerprinted. The fingerprints are then put on file for future reference. And, most likely used to check on potential criminal history. Has this every happened to you? Have you ever been asked to give your fingerprints in exchange for a job? If an employer wanted you to be fingerprinted, would you quit or decline the job?

The check-in time in our office is noted down using a automated system. Our finger prints are stored in the database, and we need to keep our finger prints on that system, when we come to office. Nowadays, these has become mandatory in most of the concerns. It is not possible to avoid this.

I'd say, "Forget it. I'm not a criminal and refuse to be treated like one." They don't need my fingerprints for nothin. If I had a criminal record, they'd find it on their bankground check they do on all their employees. What're they gonna do? Keep track of who handles what mop? What? It's stupid.

I'd like to clarify that they don't need your fingerprints for a background check. Half the time your picture is with your record if you have one, and I can bring in half a dozen people if I have to verify who I am..but I'm just a young'n..and the only jobs I'd be doin'd be at sotres, restauraunts, or clean'n somewheres..it'd be overkill ANYWAY. I think it's wrong that they keep fingerprints of people arrested but not convicted of a crime. Because they're not criminals.. *shakes my head* I come from a cautious family. I don't feel that anyone, and I mean ANYONE should have any information on me that I'd rather not want them to have..without a good reason. If they can can give me a good reason and gaurentee they weren't gonna share that information with anyone else -- I'd get it in writing too -- THEN I'd do it. Call me paranoid. I've been burned enough times to know, that plenty of people don't mind taking advantage of the common folk -- little ol' me.

well, i've never been finger-printed before for job purposes but i've been finger-printed before when i am applying for police file clearance to apply for a permanent residency here in australia... i think it depends on the nature of the job... in my current workplace, if we are going to work with children, we have to do a police check and we will be finger-printed then... it is just a new regulation here in australia since so many pedophiles exist nowadays...

I am quite surprised to see this question, to be honest. Here in Singapore, our fingerprints are embedded on our identity cards and passports. Every citizen and permanent resident gets an identity card when they reach a certain age. It used to be 12 but I think they changed it to 16 now. And so, yes, I have been fingerprinted. :P

Yes, I had to be fingerprinted because of some of the jobs I have had. I think anyone who works with a vulnerable population should be required to do so. I even had my iris mapped at Heathrow. If Big Brother wants me, he knows where to find me!

Never heard of this before here in the uk but I would definately let them do so if asked as I haev nothing to hide and after all being fingerprinted is better than working and feeling like you are on big brother with a massive camera looming over you. lol

I've never yet been fingerprinted at home in the UK,my first ever experience of this was passing through the Immigration process on a recent Visit to the US..The issue has never come up in relation to a Job application for Me as Yet..

Yes, I've been fingerprinted before, but not for a job. I'm pretty sure the first time was back when I was in elementary school. All the students in school were getting fingerprinted that day. It was for some safety thing for kids, I think. The other times were for my driver's license. I don't think I'd decline it if it was for a job. Employers are just trying to protect themselves, after all. Happy mylotting!

as far as i remember i have been fingerprinted several times. when i registered as a voter i had myself fingerprinted. when i was applying for a federal bureau clearance they have asked me to be fingerprinted and the most unforgettable experience i had with fingerprinting was when i as winvolved in a mass protest and was arrested and placed in the custody of the police authorities. just like anyone who have been arrested for whatever reasons, i had to undergo fingerprinting and photographed for record purposes. but all things worked for good because the case was dismissed.

i will not decline the job because i feel there is nothing wrong in giving your fingerprints.when you haven't done any crime why to feel embrassed.you can't decline a job because they are asking your fingerprints.when you get a job you are settled in life which is more important.

I have not ever been fingerprinted or had a background check. My current employer does have this in place for new hires, but implemented it about a year after I started, and all current employees were grandfathered. If an employer wanted me to to do fingerprints or have a background check done, I would have no problem because I have nothing to hide.

Yes. As a youth I visited a newly opened police station for a tour, and was finger printed as an 'experience'. I wonder whether they ever reached the police database? I have never been asked to provide finger prints for a job application. To the best of my knowledge I have nothing to hide (I have already passed several police checks for my job), so would not be worried.

When there was a robbery in my house I was fingerprinted. The cop wanted to blame me for stealing from my own house. And I don't even have an insurance lol :)

It seems odd that you got fingerprinted in relation to a theft from YOUR house, but on thinking about it,they'd probably want to eliminate you as a suspect as your dabs would be all over the place! (At Least,I HOPE that was the intent-maybe they might have a few more enquiries they'd likee you to help with!)

Recently, I had to be fingerprinted for a position in Health Care. I totally understand why they would need to do background or criminal checks for certain positions. Plus, by fingerprinting, a company minimizes their liability. Asking for fingerprints allows the company to check you out nationally and not just by city or state. Needless to say, I took the job and it was worth 5 minutes of my time to be fingerprinted.

None of the places I've worked required me to be fingerprinted. It would depend on the job if I would decline or not. Some jobs you have to be bonded and such, so I understand the need. To work as a waitress at the local diner? No, they don't need my fingerprints. I have no problem being fingerprinted if there is a ligitimate reason for it, which I should know just by the nature of the job I am applying for. None of the jobs I've worked at needed them, though, but then I've also been a SAHM for the past 10 years, so it's not like I've been in the workforce in a while. I still don't really see the reason unless you're in a job where you handle other people's money (clean offices, work for temp services in offices where you have access to personal information and such) or if you're working security or something.

I joined the Air Force back in 69 and I was finger printed back then. Also since then I was working at a child care development center and when they offered me the job after my interview one of the things is I had to be finger printed. There is no way I would either quit or decline because they ask for my finger prints. They are only trying to make sure the person that is coming to work is a safe person so that the kids will be safe. With joining the air force they just had to make sure that I wasn't in any kind of serious trouble.

I have been fingerprinted 5 times. Once for every community college that applied to work for part time and once to get into a teachers education program.

I have been fingerprinted. It was by US Immigration. Now my prints are on file and the US is free to make any mistakes they desire and charge me with crimes I never committed in places I have never heard of, and use the Patriot Act not to end my life, but to end my desire to live.

Fingerprint is a necessity here in my country when we apply for our identity card and our empoloyees provident fund. I don't mind if my fingerprint is taken as it is part of my identification for future uses.
