There is a new movie out staring the neice of Julia Roberts. Nancy Drew. I loved reading the Nancy Drew books when I was a young girl. I read nearly all of them. Then my daughter and later her daughter read them. Did you?

I spent my entire 6th grade summer riding my bike to the library getting those books! I read every Nancy Drew, Hardy Boys and Bobbsy Twins book I could get my hands on. I used to love them. I haven't read one in years, but I do have a couple of the PC games. I have yet to see the movie from this year, but I heard that it was decent. I know for a fact that my son is not into mysteries, so unfortunately, my love of Nancy Drew has not been passed on, but oh well, at least I can still appreciate them. It's wonderful that you and yours have loved her for so long. It's a great legacy to pass on. So much fun!

It is amazing that they are still popular. I guess that formula worked well and for the most part is timeless in the story lines. Thanks.

I read the first 56 books by 'Carolyn Keene'. I have the whole thing...and then suddenly they start releasing 57 up in the same hardcover edition...Did you know that Carolyn Keene is a pseudonym for a LOT of authors. Basically from what I understood they'd get random authors, follow the standard Nancy Drew formula and publish a book :) So I'm guessing the same goes for Franklin W. Dixon

I do seem to remember that was a pseudonym. Must be nice to find a formula that works.

I read a few of them but I really liked the TV series they had on TV back in the eighties I think.

Oh yes, I do remember reading the hardy boys when I was a kid. When you are too young and when your English is still not that great, you can't read/understand too many books lol. So yes, I used to read hardy boys then. Not that they were my favorites hehe.

Thanks. Even though a person is not good in a language sometimes it helps to read easy books like them.

Yes, i used to love Nancy Drew books when i was younger. I used to get them from the library, so no idea if i read them all or not. They were very fun books. Never read the Hardy Boys though - don't think i ever got around to it. Does anyone know when the books were set - i always thought it was late 80s, but then i was reading them in the mid 90s! Never saw the show - maybe they didn't have it over here in the UK

The books were written I think in the 30's. The tv show was in the 80's I think. I remember reading about Nancy's roadster. Nobody calls a car that anymore. Thanks for your response.

I was not much of a reader growing up, but I do remember the series, I tried to get my daughter to read them when she was young, but she didn't like them. I heard about the movie coming out, I would like to see Julia Roberts neice.

Well I read a lot as a kid maybe because I was an only child without very many playmates. The books made good stories and good escapism. Thanks for responding.

I loved to read the Nancy Drew books. Its been a long time. When I saw emma roberts though, she wasn't quite what I had always pictured Nancy drew to be like. But i guess they updated her for todays audience, not what I pictured her to look like in the 90's lol.

Well when we think of how long ago those stories were written... I guess they will be updated. I just loved them as a kid. I got to where I could read them so fast my Mother thought I should move on to harder reading. I still like them tho. Thanks for responding.

I read the Hardy boys when I was growing up. I don't know if I read them all because most times it was from the library that I would get them. My favorite child detective though was Encyclopedia Brown. Each book had a bunch of stories and gave you all the clues you needed to figure it out, and gave the final outcome that He figured out at the end of the book. it was as much a puzzle book as anything and I loved them. I know my daughter reads a lot, but the bok turned movie she is most wanting to watch of course is Harry Potter.

I used to read not only the Hardy Boys and Nancy Drew, but Tom Swift as well. Did some great book reports in 5th and 6th grade off of them--- but then I just enjoyed reading them as well. If you are a Nancy Drew fan, you can get the old 70's TV Show on DVD now. (The Hardy Boys Nancy Drew Mystery Hour.) Remember Sean Cassidy singing Da Doo Run Run in several episodes?!
