My sisters beautiful eight year old Akita (Misha) died suddenly today and we are all terribly distraught over her passing. Misha was a tomboy and so full of life everyone loved her specially little dogs. The vet said she died of bloat and it happened so suddenly that we are all just stunned. Does any one have any ideas on how l can help my sister through this terrible time, or how did you handled the loss of your dog. I just feel so useless and don't know what l can do.

It took a while before I got over losing my dog many years ago. It was just so sad to lose the pet that you have loved for so long and raised. I am sure your sister is having a hard time and will need your support and other friends and family. Her dog was still young so this was a surprise to hear. Hope that your sister will be okay. I still remember my dog and look at her pictures from time to time.

I lost a dog kind of like that, not from blaoting but very suddenly. She just started dragging her back legs, she would hit her head agianst the wall. I felt helpless not being able to drive her to the vet, but I was home alone. That was about 6 or 7 months ago...We lost 2 more in the following 4 months. I never really did get over it, I still miss tbem terribly. You can see two in my pictures, Mocha and Sadie. I always think about them, but I know they aren't hurting anymore so thats good. We got a new puppy for my mom and she looks like our dog Mocha and she acts exactly like her! My mom says she's a reincarnation of Mocha :) Mocha was the first to pass so that's possible! hehe I'm so sorry for your loss though, I know how much it hurts. If your sister is anything like my mom getting her a new puppy really will help. You can get them cheap at your local pound. Just make sure it is friendly with anything in her household. Good luck to you and your sister.

i'm so sorry to hear the loss of your sister's dog... i think the only thing you can do is just to be there for her and support her emotionally... she needs you to go through this hard time... just be a good listener and support her as much as you can... hope your sister can recover soon from her shock and everything will be back to normal again... God Bless you...

Losing a pet can be a very hard thing to go through. I am still sometimes upset over the loss of my dog last October. The best thing you can do is be there for her and let her know that it is okay to cry, but also she must not forget the good times. Here is a website that you might want to share with her. There is a very beautiful poem called Rainbow Bridge that she might find comfort in. http://www.petloss.com/

Loss of a pet is almost the same as loss of another member of the family. To get through grief of any sort is just to talk to the person as often as possible and allow them to talk and cry about their loss, so that it is not repressed, gradually time will heal and the sense of loss will turn into the good memories. I know the pain of losing a dog - they are so loyal and trusting. :-)

So sorry for your loss, that is very sad. We watched our min pin get hit by a car several years ago, he was very loved. It was the most saddest thing in the world. We kept his ashes, we still talk and laugh about him alot. I still get tears in my eyes when I picture him and his silliness. That's what got us thru the pain, memories and never stop talking about him. We have two dogs now and we are really attached to them as well. I know someday they will die too, and it hurts me, but I just love them as much as I can right now. It's better to have loved and lost than not to have loved at all. God Bless!

I like min pin some of those guys have a huge personality packed into a tinny body. My friend has one and he has a coat on him that you just want to touch, really black and silky. Thanks for the kind words.
