Really it doesn't save animals, the same ones are still going to be butchered and the meant put on the shelves, it just wouldn't be you buying it. Becoming a vegetarian would really have no effect on animal slaughter, you just wouldn't be supporting it.

if all of the people in the world are vegetarians, the entire scene that we will see in hte world will drastically change. that is, presuming that vegetarians will neither eat fish. just imagine a sea without any fishing vessel there. or farms where no one shall raise any animal at all for feeding the people? there will still be animals like the sheep which shall be raised because of their hairs and some animals for their skins. but that will be all of it.

If you don't buy meat, then the supermarket won't buy as much and therefore the suppliers won't demand it, and therefore less animals will be killed. Simple!

vegetarians do no eat flesh. because of this, they believe that they have spared the lives of animals as the consumption of their meat shall be dramatically cut down, well below the levels if they are also meat eaters. actually, this depends on how we look at things. if we are all vegetarians, the studies to enhance the quality of pigs, cows, goats, chickens and other animals for human consumption will never be happening. the meat eaters has also caused the up in the population of these animals as these have become among the primary sources of income among farmers in addition to fruits raised and vegetables, too. so, as you can see, it really depends on situations. if a meat eater kills a wild animal, disaster may arise from it. what if he is killing the last pair there is? this has happened to a lot of species of the sea cows. some species have gone extinct because they were killed by those meat eaters who had never even bothered to raise them at all in the first place.
