Do you clean your plates before serving anything on them?

Well, at our place the plates and other utencils are cleaned by the maids. All the plates and others vessels are taken out at a place in the backyard made for cleaning by our maid. After cleaning she places them in the racks made for that purpose. But whenever we take the plates out we clean it with water and then serve the dishes on them. There are some beliefs attached with that. But don't you think we have to clean the plates before having meals?

We follow the same thing. Especially the cups in which tea or coffee had been served may have insects or small ants crawling over them if they have not been cleaned properly. Its better to clean them with soap before use. The same applies to plates. Thank you for responding.

yeah, its true even with me.
we have a maid to clean our utensils...
but then, before serving food into it we do make it sure to have the utensils wiped off with a clean cloth, just in case there is some chance of the utensil being left dirty.

Yes, there might be some particles left unseen while cleaning. We can make sure that its out of dirt when we clean it ourselves. Thank you for responding.

you should always serve food on clean plates. who know what kind of bacteria might be starting to grow in there from the last meal.
i might be misunderstanding this..are you saying that after a meal, the dishes are washed..and then washed again before another meal - even though they are already clean?
what beliefs are attached to that?

There is nothing much with the beliefs. Its only that the water used by our maids may be not that clean and we cannot keep an eye on our maid as to whether she is cleaning the plates properly. So, before serving any dishes we wash the plates.
Yes, there might even be a growth of bacteria on the plates and also there can be dust which is invisible.
Thank you for responding.

I wash plates after I've used them and before I eat off them again, but they go in a cupboard and are used again pretty quickly so I don't need to wash them again. If they weren't in a cupboard there's a chance they might get dusty so you may need to wipe them before you use them again I suppose.

Yes, as earlier said by Senthil2k, the plates need to be cleaned before serving as cockroaches might have moved over it. Even if we keep the plates in cupboards the place is not free from insects. Thank you for responding.

Yes, its a matter of prestige also. What if someone points out some dirt on the plates being served. Our dignity would be hurt. Above all, nobody should suffer due to our negligence. Thank you for responding.

Yes. Definitely. There is no question about that. It is a very basic Cleanliness step in my home. Almost everyone n my home will do that before using the plates and dishes for use.
Even though you have cleaned the plates and kept in the rack, there are possibilities that insects such as Cockroaches would have crawled over them etc. So its always better to wash the plates and dishes before using them.

Yes, very true. Insects like cockroaches and lizards might have crawled upon our plates and left microbes on them. Thank you for responding.

yes i do clean my plates before using them r serving food inside it. They are always kept in a rack and when we want to use it, we always wash it due to insects, roaches or bug that might have walked on the face of the plate at night.

I clean my plates before eating anything in that. Cleanliness can avoid most of the disease. When we keep the plates on the rack or open space, the plate gets dust and cleaning it with water alone cannot clean the dust. We should use some soaps or cleaners to wash our plates before eating

Yes, very true. Most of the diseases occur due to unhygeinic conditions. We don't have any control on the restaurants but we can surely make our home free from any such disease just by following the rule of cleaning the plates before using them. Thank you for responding.

well i have a dishwasher for it...obviously i won't serve food on a dirty plate, that's obvious. But i don't do it based on any kind of beliefs...just in the fact that hygiene is important.

The belief is nothing concerned with religion or spirituality. Its just that our maids may not wash the plates properly and so we wash them again while using them to serve. Of course, hygiene is also of prime importance. Thank you for responding.
