I have a few questions I hope people can help me with. I put out a litter tray, food bowl etc but they decided top use the corner of the room to do their business instead. Does anyone know the best way to get them to use the letter tray? They are are litter trained but I suspect the new environment has confused them. Also, should I get two separate litter trays for them?

We have 5 cats and when we brought them home as kitties we made sure they knew where the box is. Try placing them in it. Each time they use the corner of the room...gently lift them by the scruff of the neck (the way mommy cat carries her kittens)and repetatively put them in the box until they get the idea...and I'd be very surprised if they don't. A gal pal and I were sitting together when we read this and both thought the kittens have no idea where the litter is. Good luck!

Cheers! They have found it and started using it! I put it in the corner and one of the kitties went straight to it and I guess the other realised too and started using it. Thanks for your help.

When we got our cats they were litter trained kittens and what we did was brought them home let them explore while we set everything up for them then we picked them up and carried them to the litter box and put them in it so they knew that, that was where they are to go potty. Ever since that is where they have gone.
1 thing you could do is place the litter box in the place they are going right now and slowly move it to the place you want it to be. Eventually they will get a clue. I dont see a need to have 2 litter boxes it is only going to make all the more mess you are goingto have to clean up.
Something you might want to consider is get litter liners. They are plastic bags made to fit inside the litter box and you place that in first then the litter on top and all you have to do for clean up is to remove the bag with the litter in it and replace with another bag and fresh litter. It is easier than scraping the litter box every week and feeling like you are going to puke every time because it is grose.

All we had to do with our cats is put them in the litter box to show them where it was. I don't think you need 2 litter boxes. We have 2 cats and they doperfectly find with one. I didn't even think of getting 2 until the vet recently suggested it (they think one of our cats may have anxeity).

When I got my kitty he was so good.
He used his litter box everytime but I read in books you need two maybe even three so there is always a clean one. My wee Leo holds in the toilet tim his box is clean cos he hates dirty places. Cats are like that.
You will need to disinfect the area they peed in cos otherwise they will smell their toilet there and think that is the place to go.
I know it is two weeks passed so I do hope they now know.
If you ever need to puncihs your cat you need to get them as soon as they do the wrong think and tap them gently on the nose with two fingers and say in stern voice NO! Don't hurt them though as then they will just be scared. This is what the book taught me.
My little Leo today was a naughty boy cos he got on a roof and wouldn't come back and I had to climb and get him so now he is grounded cos he can't be trusted outside.

hey, just realised you responded to my question. Just to keep you updated they both use the litter tray now and are doing very well. Is your cat still grounded?

Thank you, I will certainly try that! We put it in the lounge originally as the woman we got them from said to keep them in the same room for the first few day. I think they may have got confused as I put it into the hall for the night. The have been hiding under the sofa so far all day, no sure if they are tired or scared, they seemed ok last night they were roaming about all over the place.

I've always just put them in the litter box to let them know where it is. You might try and watch them and when they start to go to that corner of the room hurry and put them in the litter box. I have two cats who use the same litter box. So, I would say that is not the problem.

Thanks. I'll give i a go. The owner said it doesnt matter if we use the same litter as she used but I'm wondering if we should as they might not know what the stuff we got is.
