I just wanted to share with you the beautiful memorial service for Ruth Graham today. It was elegant, simple, a celebration, and touching. All 5 of her children spoke, and her older sister did too. Billy Graham was able to stand at his seat and say a few words. What an amazing family.
George Beverly Shae sang, his voice as strong as ever at 90 some years old.
Joni Ericson Tada was there as well as Robert Shuller.
The Billy Graham Evangelistic Association gave every single person a book written by Ruth titled, "Sitting by My Laughing Fire"...a book of her poetry.
It was just an amazing time and I wanted to share it with you all.

I'm sure it was an emotionally filled service. I love to hear George Beverly Shae's voice. I had the pleasure of meeting Ruth many times while in high school and college. I worked at a store in Asheville that Ruth frequented. She was a gentle, remarkable woman.

Wow! What a blessing it must have been to be there. The world has lost a beautiful lady. I'm glad you were able to go and pay your respects. Thank you for posting this and telling us about it.

I could have told more about it, but I'm exhausted.
The service started at 2:00. We got up at 7 am to get ready to go. My husband and I both work at Montreat and we were told to have all vehicles off the campus by 5PM Friday after work. The news also said no cars would be allowed to park there and everyone had to be shuttled in. My husband and I are walkers, hikers, so we decided that rather than wait for the shuttle at 11:00, we'd go real early and walk the 3 miles from Black Mountain to Montreat.
Turned out, we could have driven. But, they opened the doors at noon, at 1:30, the choir started singing some songs and it started promptly at 2 PM... it was beautiful. Lots and lots of people, probably 2000 or more.

How amazing that you were able to be there! A wonderful moment in history to the rest of us. The Graham family are an institution in our country, so somewhat like celebrities. What a wonderful experience for you. Thanks for sharing.

How wonderful must it have been to see such a life celebrated. I know Billy will be joining her soon, but I selfishly want to keep him with us as long as possible. Ruth isn't resting in peace right now, she is glorifying the Lord in Heaven!
